On the other hand, Sap, don’t get too cocky as news from your neck of the woods…

Do you need help or do you know?
I'm only going off the spec sheet. I'm fairly D-Cinema savvy, but as someone on the Art House theater spectrum I wouldn't know anymore than what the spec sheet lists. I only shared the listed file size since it seemed of interest to people on the forum.

Anyway, the answer to your query is….Yes.
You'll never let me forget the time I ignored your ASS, will you?

I had the completely wrong idea about what these DCP file sizes actually reflect. (Thanks Richard Paul for steering me right.) Maybe in the end 66GB really will be enough for the HEVC-compressed versions.

I read somewhere that the 4K movies on Sony's streaming/DL service are around 40GB; I assumed that was v low just because of the digital delivery (trying to save data) but maybe it isn't even that far off all things considered.

You never told me if you’ve moved permanently from the London area or if Swanage is simply a costal get-away. Looks nice.

Link.

I see in the URL it says something about 100 more years of analog film.

Not to worry.

I later briefly checked out your past postings on other threads on the Blu-ray.com forum and its apparent you’re a solid contributor like all the more regular posters here whom I’m familiar with (Geoff, Richard, Kris, Teaz, sing, Steed, Sap, etc. I was just trying to get a handle as to your level of expertise, that’s all. Let me help. Look again closely at the file on the spec sheet which you posted on the last page…..

Interstellar_FTR-2_S_EN-EN-CCAP_OV_51-HI-VI-DBOX_4K_ PC_20141023_TDC_IOP

Without going through all the different naming but, in briefly answering my original query to you -

TDC….stands for Technicolor Digital Cinema LA

OV…..stands for Original Version (meaning it always contains the entire feature as opposed to a partial feature)

IOP….stands for Interop (as opposed to a SMPTE (DCP) – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...te#post9842561 )

You are now in the know.

Teaz, …apples and oranges with D-Cinema/JPEG2000 and 4K Blu-ray/HEVC. Obviously, Richard and I are pro 4K and pro physical media but if you desire a completely independent thought process by someone who has no skin in the 4K Blu-ray game, then scroll down to the comment by Gary Sullivan (of Microsoft) a co-chair of the team developing HEVC… http://www.tested.com/tech/tvs/453366-future-blu-ray/

P.S.
The article is obviously rather dated as much has changed since then but, 66GB should be o.k. for the preliminary 4K Blu-ray content. 99GB should be sufficient padding if things get tight on 66 with future added value.

There's another nice little titbit from that article regarding the 4K bitrate and how it doesn't simply jump up by a factor of four just because there's four times as many pixels as 2K. I'd heard it was a factor of about 2.5, and Gary Sullivan states that it'll be a factor of 3 or "maybe less" so I wasn't too far off. As he says, the spatial correlation of the signal increases (basically there's more pixels showing similar content as each other vs a 2K image) so the compression itself is aided by that.

And yes Penton, the move to Swanage is a permanent deal.

People have been tossing around the date of October 2015 as to when full features will only be available in SMPTE DCP with no interop versions going out. The transition will take some time.

Looks very nice Geoff. I like what I see when I google it on the net, reminds me a little of sailing off Annapolis when I was a youngin. With regards to Gary, he’s also co-editor of this book - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ok#post9801382

It seems that a young DP quickly took his words to heart...http://filmmakermagazine.com/88128-c.../#.VFUYfvnF-Sr

and put pen to paper by starting up a petition a few days ago…. https://www.change.org/p/hdtv-manufa...g-on-all-hdtvs

It has hit the 6,000 Signature milestone mark today so far.
