Yup, it feels like an electronics store employee douchebag is in charge of the projection. (Douchebag because they think that setting sells the tv when they put a movie sampler in there. It looks good if it's some nature or sports program, but NOT film!!!)

Idk I thought the HFR 3D for the first hobbit movie looked stunning. The Rivendell sequence in HFR was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a movie. And it didn't have jitter issues like the "motion flow" options do on 120/240hz tv's do

The Smaug premier is tonight, just watching the livestream. I saw Freeman, Orlando, Cumberbatch, etc. good stuff.

HOBBIT: DESOLATION OF SMAUG spoilers leaking today...

Here's a link to a brief article discussing the ending, with tons more spoilers in the comments section. Don't go if you don't want to know.

I just hope that he is not lathered in teal like that final shot from An Unexpexted Journey.

If that is really how the film will end then There and Back Again will have A LOT of epic stuff happening.
[Show spoiler]It'll probably open with Smaug's attack on Laketown and him being killed by Bard. Then it'll show The White Council attacking Dol Goldur and freeing Gandalf. Then we'll get to see The Battle of Five Armies, followed by Thorin's death and Bilbo's journey home.

If it's true (and I think it is likely to be true) I think there's going to be a whooole lot of kvetching.

Buckle up, we're heading for turbulence.

There will be "kvetching" regardless of how it goes, people always complain when you get a really good or great movie that doesn't really end but instead leads into another movie.

I think the kvetching will center on some rather substantial deviations and additions to the source material. If not for all that, there'd be time to stay with the main narrative. Not talking about Gandalf and the Necromancer...talking about an entire subplot that doesn't appear anywhere in Tolkien's writings.

Thanks for the link.

I've read the book multiple times since I was a kid, and I'm 49 now, and so it wasn't really a spoiler for me.

I'm glad he ended it where he did. That's where I was hoping he'd end it. Just my 2 cents.

Love Peter Jackson's work on this. He and his team do a fantastic job on every level on this.

This trilogy is so much better than superhero stuff, but I'm probably in the minority on that.

I love the book, but Tauriel is a great addition to the story. Back in those days (in other words, before c. 1965?), intelligent people could strangely enough write a whole book without a major female character in it. Imho Jackson has helped save the book and made it relevant for today. I'm looking forward to taking my 12 year old daughter to it.

I'm with you, I liked the first Hobbit film as much as the LOTR trilogy!

Technically I'd agree. I'd rate the first Hobbit film a 10/10. Ranking it higher than most super hero movies or films of any genre. I do like super hero films though. Kick-Ass 2 was particularly awesome. Largely cause of Chloe/Hit-Girl. Loved her story line.

Ah, I'm so excited for the new Hobbit. I want to see Evangeline as an elf and more of the Tolkien/Jackson Middle-Earth.

Don't take this the wrong way, because it is going to sound adversarial, and it is not intended in that way -- but do you think films like 2001 A Space Odyssey and Lawrence of Arabia are strangely flawed for not having major female characters? Or war films, like Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket? In Tolkien's books, the various societies and cultures didn't send their females to war, unless I'm very mistaken, which is why Eowyn had to keep her involvement in the War of the Ring a secret, and both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are, in a sense, espionage war stories.

Lawrence of Arabia is one of my favorite films of all time. I'm glad they didn't try to make it into a romance or add a woman in there when that didn't happen.

But I feel the fantasy world of JRR T. can, as good as it is, be improved in some places. And I'm glad Jackson's doing what he's doing.

Just so long as that "Romeo and Juliet doomed love" subplot doesn't overshadow the other drama.

Well AMC just refuses to properly sell advance tickets..I'm likely going to have to wait until the week before to get the ones I want. They don't even have High Frame Rate 3D at any of their Dolby Atmos theaters listed yet but hopefully they will..they finally got regular Dolby Atmos 3D yesterday.

I think PJ does a great job with the Tolkien movies because he films so much and his versions are all super long.

Also, there isn't too much filler in his stuff I suppose.

The other thing is, he really does a great job with cinematography. I know a good portion of his stuff is CGI, but you really feel the depth of his camera shots, like before the Battle at Minas Tirith begins in ROTK. The panoramic shot of all 12,000 Uruk-Hai gives me chills, and then the even more beautiful panoramic shot of the Rohirrim. Then when you factor in Howard Shore's brilliant score, it makes the movie even MORE powerful. The tension and buildup with Theoden's suicide speech with the background music playing was intense.

I have to admit, I didn't know much about the Hobbit but I had my expectations very low considering I don't think there would be any way to top Two Towers/ROTK without some huge battle. But even without a major battle on screen with thousands of enemies, The Hobbit was a very fun watch for me.

I could watch any of the LOTR movies any time, lots of replay value. WHenever TNT has marathons during the holidays or AMC shows it, I don't hesitate to watch.

UNfortunately I don't think there will be a HFR Hobbit showing in my city, so I'll just stick with regular 2D viewing. Don't need Imax.
