Yeah, I was checking out the Arclight too, but then noticed that Dolby Atmos and HFR appear to be different screenings and not together. So it looks like my only options are either AMC 15 in Century City or AMC 16 in Burbank. Both locations are also on IMAX screens which is a plus. Anybody want to carpool?

This interaction actually took place in the books, in the "The Quest for Erebor" (hence the song title) as part of "Unfinished Tales," a collection of canon material published by Tolkien's son.

I'll let you know for certain around midnight tonight . Double feature in high frame rate for me.
I saw a screening Tuesday night.
[Show spoiler]The prologue is Gandalf meeting Thorin in Bree setting the journey in motion. I also think this is the first movie where there is a title at the bottom for the location.

Saw it today. Definitely much better than the 1st but still breaks my heart Jackson went the heavy cgi route on everything. It just removes me from the flick.

If you liked the first one, you will love this, but I don't think it will change the minds of the first trilogy diehards.

Expected more comments from one of the top movies of the year to come out tonight.

Anyhow i saw and it thought it was great. A few nitpicks but other than that was pretty entertaining and i didn't find myself checking for the time throughout the film.

This one was darker than the first and alot of action. Saw in IMAX 3D which was fairly good but will be checking this out in HFR again this weekend as that is how i watched AUJ last year.

4.5/5 for me.

For those that don't want to listen to the audio clip...
[Show spoiler]The first movie would have ended right at the end of the barrel sequence with an image of the silhouette of Bard pointing an arrow.

Overall I'm glad it was made into 3 movies.

Frankly I'm glad it was in 3 movies. More Peter Jackson Tolkien movies/content the better!

Indeed.
I honestly wish they would just make a 3 film trilogy that would in essence be Lord of the rings 2.

I can't believe how epic the final 30 minutes were in this second film. I had no idea how elaborate the final set pieces were going to be.

I think PJ has made these Tolkien movies so long and filled them with so much content, that nobody would dare remaking these in 20-30 years.

Much like I think nobody would ever dare remake Coppola's Godfather movies in our lifetime.

It could be at least four movies if they wanted too.

Yeah. His Tolkien movies have extremely long run times, not even including the extended editions.

Like I said, the more the merrier for me.

PJ is a one of kind at his craft, and he makes Middle-Earth come to life.

I just think we're fortunate that he decided to come back 11 years after filming the LOTR movies to do these Hobbit movies.

His movies have so many diverse and likable characters that either one of them I could watch on TV at any random time.

Agreed, I would love a Lord of the Rings tv series if Jackson were behind it.

I just cant imagine this being two films - there would be no breathing room and many characters would be left depthless. Three long theatrical movies seem like a neccessity after watching these two. And even better, extended versions.

i think the 3 movie idea would have worked better if each movie were 2 hours. I could see that working much, much better.

I also don't know if 2 movies would have worked that well for the Hobbit. There was a lot going on in those 300 pages, but I think 3 3-hr movies was a bit too much.

Unless plans change unexpectedly I'll be seeing this with a family member who hasn't seen the first in the trilogy. How confused do you think they'll be?
