It was pretty good. The 3D was very good as well though I did see it in 24fps rather than 48, which I still plan on seeing. Though the sound might be better in an Atmos theater overall watching it in IMAX is worth the ticket, at least for me.

Just home from the cinema, saw the 3D HFR-version. Definitely felt the HFR was better this time around, and it truly added to the experience. Never thought Legolas could be THAT much of a badass. Really surprised me. Smaug was awesome as well. Did feel that it became a bit too much in the area of CGI and special effects in the end, they could have shortened it, slowed it down a little and not played around with the characters like they were bouncing balls. It just dragged on a bit, you know, like the finale in Iron Man 3 (and I didn't feel the finale of Man of Steel dragged on, so what do I know, right?

Just saw it in non-gimmicky 2D: A++++ film!
damn it, gotta wait a whole year till the next one, Ahhhh!!!!!! The river barrel scene with Dwarves vs elves vs orcs was incredible - ironic that Bombur was in the coolest, funniest most awesome- choreographed action scene of the year! Last edited by toddly6666; 12-12-2013 at 03:47 AM. |

I saw this last night and it's without a doubt miles and miles improved over AUJ. The barrel sequence and the Smaug sequences were brilliant and just as good as anything in the LOTR-trilogy. Some pacing problems persist, the love triangle felt a bit forced but wasn't distracting, and the ending is a hell of a cliff-hanger, but overall it was one of my favorite movies of the year and I can't wait until There & Back Again next year.

I found a theatre in Raleigh Durham Triangle that's showing the film in 48fps tomorrow. Problem is, I have a three hour window to see the flick before I have to pick the kids up at school and it's at least a 30 minute drive.
I'd never make it back in time, I think. |

Anybody know where this is playing in HFR 3D and Dolby Atmos together in Orange County? My theater I went to last year (AMC 30 Orange) is not screening HFR this year. So far the only other theaters I could find are in Burbank or Los Angeles and I'd rather not drive 60 miles if I don't have to
