It was pretty good. The 3D was very good as well though I did see it in 24fps rather than 48, which I still plan on seeing. Though the sound might be better in an Atmos theater overall watching it in IMAX is worth the ticket, at least for me.

Just home from the cinema, saw the 3D HFR-version. Definitely felt the HFR was better this time around, and it truly added to the experience. Never thought Legolas could be THAT much of a badass. Really surprised me. Smaug was awesome as well. Did feel that it became a bit too much in the area of CGI and special effects in the end, they could have shortened it, slowed it down a little and not played around with the characters like they were bouncing balls. It just dragged on a bit, you know, like the finale in Iron Man 3 (and I didn't feel the finale of Man of Steel dragged on, so what do I know, right? )

Best part?
[Show spoiler]That riverside orch-battle with Legolas and the dwarves in barrels.

Glad to hear good things about the high frame rate. I enjoyed it the first time around, and look forward to seeing both movies the way Jackson intended tomorrow night. Just one more school final to get through .

5/5 about the top tier of fantasy movies for me, it had presence and took you there to middle earth, Smaug o mighty he is awesome!.

White Water Barreling should be an Olympic Sport!.

Tauriel, i'll use tags despite how insignificant my statement may be
[Show spoiler]a welcome addition to the cast, provides a special little light in an otherwise intense movie, she's great

awesome!

Just saw it in non-gimmicky 2D: A++++ film!

damn it, gotta wait a whole year till the next one, Ahhhh!!!!!!

The river barrel scene with Dwarves vs elves vs orcs was incredible - ironic that Bombur was in the coolest, funniest most awesome- choreographed action scene of the year!

I saw this last night and it's without a doubt miles and miles improved over AUJ. The barrel sequence and the Smaug sequences were brilliant and just as good as anything in the LOTR-trilogy. Some pacing problems persist, the love triangle felt a bit forced but wasn't distracting, and the ending is a hell of a cliff-hanger, but overall it was one of my favorite movies of the year and I can't wait until There & Back Again next year.

8.5/10

Going off the title of the first song on the soundtrack and its tone, I'm nearly sure that it starts with a prologue of
[Show spoiler]Thorin and Gandalf planning the quest itself, presumably with more back story about the Dwarven rings, the whereabouts of Thrain, and the danger involved. This interaction actually took place in the books, in the "The Quest for Erebor" (hence the song title) as part of "Unfinished Tales," a collection of canon material published by Tolkien's son.

I'll let you know for certain around midnight tonight . Double feature in high frame rate for me.

I found a theatre in Raleigh Durham Triangle that's showing the film in 48fps tomorrow. Problem is, I have a three hour window to see the flick before I have to pick the kids up at school and it's at least a 30 minute drive.

I'd never make it back in time, I think.

Anybody know where this is playing in HFR 3D and Dolby Atmos together in Orange County? My theater I went to last year (AMC 30 Orange) is not screening HFR this year. So far the only other theaters I could find are in Burbank or Los Angeles and I'd rather not drive 60 miles if I don't have to

I ended up going with Arclight Sherman Oaks again. Only this time it looks like they separated out HFR and Dolby Atmos into two different theaters. So you can't have both! I hope it is just a typo and the DA theater still is HFR as well. Sorry, don't know any others in OC. You can try looking here. http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/...-a-cinema.html
