Yes, she didn't return to Rivendell until T.A. 2951, ten years after the events of "The Hobbit". It seems as though everyone else is in the movie, might as well include her, too.

I have to wonder that when the Blu EEs come out for all of these movies, if it will be humanly possible to watch the WHOLE shebang in one entire sitting????

Gimli was 62 and living in the area of the Blue Mountains at the time of "The Hobbit". He did not come to the Lonely Mountain until after his father Gloin helped secure it, which of course is the subject of the movie. I could imagine Gimli making a cameo appearance near the end of the film.

Assuming two Hobbit EE's at about 4 hrs each would put the total for all 5 movies around 20 hours. I'm not sure if even I could handle that, would definitely require plenty of beer on hand.

Wonder if it would be the same actor, I'd like to see Gimli appear in movie 2 but only if he's actually going to do something and not just show up.

It would definitely be cool if he showed up These movies are going to be very, very good

That would be so brutal and long Don't get me wrong, I love the movies, but I don't think I could sit 20+ Hours watching only 5 movies!

A couple of years ago I did a season of 24 in 24.

Meaning, I watched the 24 episodes over 24 hours, starting each episode at the top of the hour, to match the starting hour of each. This resulted in a 15ish minute break between each episode, but no more and no less.

Was a fun experience, and I'm sure watching all five Middle Earth movies in a row would be as well.

Deadline.com: Orlando to reprise Legolas in ‘Hobbit’

December 8th, 2010 by Calisuri

Orlando Bloom Deadline.com is reporting that Orlando Bloom is expected to reprise his role as Legolas Greenleaf in the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ films. You may ask, how can this be? Well, quite simply, the character of Legolas was very much alive during the timeframe of The Hobbit. In fact, he was probably several thousand years old at the time of The Lord of the Rings! Since Legolas is the son of Thranduil (The Elvenking), a major player in ‘The Hobbit,’ one can easily see Peter, Phillipa, and Fran writing him into the script.

*MINOR SPOILERS*
Not only would he appear in Mirkwood with the other wood-elves, he could very well lead the wood-elf contingent into the Battle of Five Armies! Deadline also mentions the negotiations for Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving and Andy Serkis are still ongoing.

deadline.com-

"After New Line Cinema announced Cate Blanchett's return to Middle Earth for 'The Hobbit,' I'm told that Orlando Bloom will likely be the next original cast member set for an encore. He's near a deal to return as Elven archer Legolas. And it's for more than a cameo, I'm told. I'd have expected them to first set Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Andy Serkis (Gollum) or Hugo Weaving (Elrond), whose characters figured in the book. But those talks have been arduous and aren't completed yet."

Was Legolas even in the Hobbit? Think they are making it up as they go along

No, he wasn't, but people have to realize that certain liberties will be taken with the book in order to maximize entertainment value, as well as appease fans of the three LOTR films (which, by the way, also had liberties taken in comparison to the books).

Not sure about Legolas being in this, but I am glad that Galadrial will be and that they are at least using the same actors/actresses for each.

Well they're using all of Tolkein's other material and are trying to bridge The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films. So it honestly makes a lot of sense that they're doing this. I'm sure we'll hear that Gimli and Strider will be back as well. They'll all be a part of it partially I think.

Yeah I'm really happy Legolas is back and really hope that we also get Gimli and Strider to come back somehow.

Well, unless they really screw around with the source material, Aragorn will have to be a kid at the time of The Hobbit. But yeah, I can easily see the character appear briefly during the stop-over in Rivendell.

Although not specifically mentioned in "The Hobbit", Legolas' inclusion is not too much of a stretch, since the story involves the elves of Mirkwood, which is where he lived. There are many clever plot components that Jackson could use in this regard. One area where "The Hobbit" should be an improvement compared to "Lord of the Rings" - the introduction at the beginning of "Fellowship" notwithstanding - is the legitimate use of large numbers of elves in a battle (and dwarves also, among other creatures).

That's what I'm assuming is to see the Young Strider, not Viggo appearing as Argorn. Just wouldn't make sense. But young Strider definitely is an option
