I looked at the differences and it honestly doesn't seem like much of value is lost. Can just watch the sex scene on the BD like an extra.

It's so hard to find a slipcover for this. Finally found a listing for the German release with a slipcover on Ebay today.

I thought this was a gorgeous-looking disc. One of the best-looking UHDs shot on film. There were a few pretty grainy shots but it looked amazing most of the time. It was crazy how young Will Smith looked once he shaved. I honestly thought he looked like his clone in Gemini Man. Audio was solid too with lots of overhead usage. Shame the movie wasn't able to carry its momentum into its second half but still quite enjoyable.

FWIW, I watched the UHD a few weeks back and it's another lovely effort from Sony, looking gorgeously tight and filmic. The Blu is still very good but the UHD brings out more variance to skin tones and the dynamic range does its usual thang. Not some amazing demo disc but a very decent upgrade.

On sale for $12…so finally time to upgrade. I do love the movie and the Atmos mix is suppose to be well done and you know how you love audio upgrades.

Just watched this after the recent (non-)news about a sequel and the disc looked great.

Sony’s “Hancock” is being distributed in 4K for digital cinema, which has prompted some fresh discussion about the resolution.

“In a 4K projection-equipped cinema, (a 4K DCP) means you get the 4K image, and it delivers the higher-frequency, higher-detailed stuff,” said Chris Cookson, president of Sony Pictures Technologies.

Opinions vary on whether 4K offers a noticeable difference for today’s theatergoers. But proponents argue that the resolution has value beyond what is screened in today’s cinema.

“Even if there wasn’t 4K cinema today, I would be interested in 4K just to make sure that I save as much information as I historically saved when I was shooting and cutting on 35mm film … and putting that in the vault,” Cookson said. “In 2K, you lose a fair amount of information compared with what was on the original film.”
