One of the HD-DVD fanboy of course posted this on the AVS Blu-Ray forum. Ironically this so called insider was mostly pro Blu... I think BDA should out bid them if it is true.. Time to bring out the big bats....

"beatboy made a statement that Warner is being offered 225mill to go HD-DVD exclusive and that they are "very" interested. Supposedly they will decide by Friday. So we'll see if he has some true insider info.."

Unfortunately some of the higher ups didn't count on the disruptive and defensive practices of Microsoft, in the same way that Sony got caught out by Nintendo and the Wii this time around in the games console market,
Everyone knew the Wii would do at least OK. It's got a great gimmick.

The real question is how well it's going to do come 2010. My guess? Not so good. Already Wiis are starting to pile up on Ebays and Craigslists from people for whom bowling is no longer amusing, and who don't care about any actual games

Unfortunately for HD DVD, to bring it back on topic, they don't have any such gimmick.

paid/penton, not sure if this is your area, but on the subject of split rights and region coding, would it be possible for Sony or the BDA to "encourage" studios to make BDs all region where rights are split with an HD DVD exclusive studio?

For example, Next will be HD DVD exclusive in the US, and BD exclusive in the UK (released by Entertainment in Video). EIV have so far region coded their catalogue releases, presumably to be fair to companies releasing the same titles on BD later in other regions.

However, in the case of Next this seems like it would be a spectacular own goal when HD DVD pay no such consideration to protecting the revenue of companies in other regions. Making such BDs region free would at least go some way to mitigating the Paramount move.

He seems pretty sure. What the heck could it be?
I think he has changed his tune now...

"beatboy made a statement that Warner is being offered 225mill to go HD-DVD exclusive and that they are "very" interested. Supposedly they will decide by Friday. So we'll see if he has some true insider info.."

I mean if I where the BDA I might want to start throwing my money around now.. Might loose some cash now, but make it up later in some way..

It's very likely that contracts would not allow for that.

I welcome them to try though

Nuts, following on from your post, can someone confirm that you can't get HD via component on EIV releases, just HDMI? ( not all of us have 1080p panels just yet).

paidgeek/Penton,
Regarding the above, how does it work when Paramount releases Next on HD-DVD with no region coding? Since theoretically the distributor in Korea, where the distributor may be an independent, would lose out because the title encroach upon its business. Can the Korean distributor release its BD version of Next region free specifically to market to other countries? Or must the distributor code Region A only and limit the market to other Region A countries?

Yeah, and all other movies. Like the trailers they have on the PS Store, and have the Blu-ray logo at the end.

If we can more of those trailers, that would be great.

I love collecting HD trailers, I have about 75 of them on my PS3, all in 1080p, from the Apple Trailers and Yahoo Movies sites.

Decrypting, we get key words like China, exclusively, 20, and $200. In National Lampoon's Vacation, they are setting out to go to "Wally World" which of couse is the podunk name for "Wal-Mart". So... $200 Blu-ray players exclusively at Walmart? Not sure where the 20 fits in. Any comments?

Maybe 20 was just a number to get to $200. 20 movie tickets * $10 = $200

that occured to me, its a little high for a ticket in most places, but if beatboy lives in LA or someplace it is that high i beleve. also it could be a filler to confuse us.

Nothing bad, just busy.
Give me a few minutes to type up my thoughts on a couple things as I’ve scanned some of the recent posts.
