An off-topic comment, but it is likely Zune's execution (and especially the product planning part) has affected many people's careers, it's not just the HDM side.
I was skeptical of the ipod, being a long time pocketPC user (along with a ipaq hw6515 phone user for years), but when I had a chance to play with the iphone, I realized how poorly designed the GUI in WinCE and pocketPC was, and gave my old hw6515 to my oldest --- that thing had over $1000 worth of applications installed, including tomtom gps. It's telling that MSFT, in trying to make WinCE a success have had to build their own hardware, first dreamcast, then xbox, then 360, then Zune. In all cases with massive spendings fueled by the windows and office products. I hope I don't hurt people's feelings, but WinCE is not exactly a success story. Given all the goodwill they can leverage from PC windows, and all those excel/word support, after almost two decades, they still can't figure out how to make a handheld gadget that people want to use. So the rumor going around is that : it was all Zune that messed up people's careers. |

Insiders,
Just a little heads-up regarding PS3 and a possible incompatibility issue at firmware 2.01 with Pixar Shorts: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=24885 In case SCE hasn't been notified. ![]() enjoy gandalf ![]() |

To any insider whoo feels like responding --
I just lost my mind temporarily and made a trek over to AVM$ and was reading through their insider's thread. I remember when PaidGeek left (and many of us Blu-ray fans left with him), and how it was unfortunate, but completely understandable given the circumstances. So, my question, then, is what did TalkStr8t do to get stuck responding to a never ending stream of FUD over there? Is he contractually obligated to post on that board, or is he just that masochistic? In any event, has anyone offered him an olive branch to come back to the realm of sanity over here. Many people here have real questions... and his input is always valuable. |

For the insiders: Please pass this along - if you want interactivity with the internet to be successful they players need a wireless internet connection. These days its all about wireless (such as the PS3) - hard wired connections are out of fashion.

I respectfully disagree with you, Aside from techies people will not invest the money or resources to hard wire their house for the internet. In may places such as apartments it may be impossible. I am using two PS3 with wireless and get great results. My son who lives in apartment could not connect his PS3 without wireless. It is very difficult and costly to retrofit a old house for wired connectivity.

Beside people wiring their house to have a hard connection near their large screen HDTV in the living room because they are hardcore gamers, how many average house has a ethernet plug / hub near their TV in the living room? |

David - you do need a new display unfortunately. The problem is that with LCD shutter glasses at those frequencies you get flicker. Synching the glasses with the display is also a problem, especially with ones that have delays due to the processing chain, and with things like dynamic contrast and the like you may even have a variable delay. Even if you do use a higher refresh rate, most fixed pixel displays can't actually update the image displayed as fast as needed. DLPs and CRTs can, LCD/SXRD and plasma can't.

Any comments on ONKYO's decision to drop its HDDVD player because of Toshiba's pricing?
I feel that HDDVD needs the CE support if they are to survive, this does not help them. |
