Ooops! You're quite right, it's an HDR10 clip and not an HLG one, I think I got confused by the title: http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=155
Still looks fab-ola though. I've downloaded some 'Dolby Vision' LG clips from here (links taken from the OPPO 203 thread) which play perfectly fine in SDR on the X800, I take it they're not actual DV clips and are just generically encoded demo vids? |

The Journey to Space one especially looks incredible, even in SDR. For anyone looking for more HLG videos, there are a few in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...9Ih8qQwMgaiOFQ |

Geoffy loves them blacks. I am glad I prefer a bias light, since everything has good blacks that way and I don't have to worry about it. I get why pitch dark rooms are preferred by many though. Cool that you love the set Geoff.

I watched Halloween last night in a - yep - pitch dark room and it was so immersive on this TV, the movie itself has quite raised black levels but the letterbox borders were pure black so it was like looking at a 2.35 screen, if that makes sense. In a funny way it meant that I didn't keep getting distracted by comparing the blacks of the movie to the blacks of the borders, because the borders simply weren't there.

Good to hear there must be no issues with the active LEDs. My old Vizio was unwatchable with that mode on because of all the bands of light and blooming. |

I use this. https://www.biaslighting.com/product...d65-bias-light Usually on its lowest setting, but sometimes turn it off completely. |

![]() With HDR material however some occasional lightbleed can still be seen (depending on what's going on on the screen) although it's not really bad or anything. Inevitable also I guess (unless you have an OLED) especially with this TV and its peak brightness. It still does a helluva good job of keeping those bars black. Sony + FALD = ![]() |

Hmmm that's a good thought, subtitles might mess with FALD or smart LED features. Not sure if I've watched a subtitled movie on my new set yet but I should try to soon to see if it screws with it. Maybe time to break out Nikita.

BUT as I said this is something that's more chronic with HDR and the 1800-odd nits that the TV can produce rather than a 120-nit SDR output which is what I've pegged my SDR at (contrast 75, backlight 10, gamma at -1 and dimming to medium), and it's why Halloween looked so gorgeous from start to finish. |

I remember one movie having extreme white/bright subtitles, I think it was Independence Day: Resurgence but I'm not 100% sure. Not very pleasant to look at, rather distracting actually.

I think I will just keep contrast at 85 (10K's settings says 86) in Cinema Pro mode for HDR. 85 happens to be my contrast for SDR in Cinema Pro so if I leave it that way, I won't have to switch picture presets every time I watch HDR material.
Geoff, if you have set contrast at 88 for HDR in Cinema Home like you said in the X800 thread, what mode are you using for watching SDR with your 75 contrast setting? I saw 10K uses contrast at the maximum setting for both Pro and Home? I still don't get why it's not possible to change pictures settings for SDR, HDR and 3D independently from each other on the same picture mode? Only backlight and gamma can be changed without affecting the other if I'm not mistaken. Anyway thought I'd post my ZD9 settings here: I use Cinema Pro when watching SDR and HDR and Custom mode for 3D. Brightness: 5 (Max for HDR and 3D) Contrast: 85 (85 for HDR, 84 for 3D) Gamma: -2 (0 for HDR and 3D) Blacklevel: 50 for SDR and HDR, 52 for 3D Black adjust: off ACE: off LD: medium XDR: off (high for HDR, off for 3D) Color: 54 for SDR and HDR, 52 for 3D Tint: 0 Color temp: Expert 1 Advanced color temp (for SDR, HDR and 3D): R gain: -6 G gain: -7 B gain: max R bias: -15 G bias: 2 B bias: -15 Live color: off Sharpness: 50 RC: off (20 for TV broadcast) Random NR: off Digital noise NR: off (low for TV broadcast) Smooth gradation: low Motionflow: True Cinema for SDR and HDR, off for 3D Film mode: low Video options: all on auto |
