![]() The only issue/consternation expressed by some of the attendees (archivists) was that of the audio, namely, the new digital restoration of the classic Walt Disney animated film didn’t include Deems Taylor's introductions. |

![]() The intriguing thing about their bayer pattern is that since people see 2 parts green for each part red or blue, instead of just having 3 discrete color channels (RGB), they have 4 color channels (GBRG) to which they assign their bayer pattern and then instead of layering them upon each other, their algorithm rearranges them around to minimize the grain compared to YCM’s. I’m still not convinced of the merits of this solution over the traditional way of archiving motion pictures but anyway, if you’re interested, a company spokesman will be presenting this process publicly at the ACVL (Association of Cinema & Video Laboratories) at the Library of Congress in early October, so maybe a more detailed report of the process/presentation will be posted online for all to read. |

Oooh, if we're going to be unlocking quadrachromatic from a B&W source, there might be use for the Sharp LCDs after all (they'll need to change the colour of one of their primaries, but at least it'll be less of a stupid marketing ploy than the current use, with their magic Yellow push).
And let me know when/if you get a check disc on Kwai, I'm curious what you think. ![]() Quote:

Thanks for the hint, I will check if anything goes public after the ACVL event.
I think that I would have to see for myself how it looks but if it works as you say (full luma resolution, no misregistration) I would probably prefer it to traditional separations - The luma resolution and registration will be superior and the chroma channels will be affected but not as much. Less grain buildup is another advantage of course. Of course I also understand about the idea of saving money, film stock and space but I am not interested in that aspect as much ![]() Quote:

Just wanted to highlight this for Canadian members.
We've finally got an opportunity to view large format films. A must for any film fan. The Museum of Civilization in Gatineau Quebec is holding a 70mm film festival. Follow the link. http://www.in70mm.com/news/2010/canada/index.htm Looks like Mr. Harris will attending and holding a Q&A session. See everyone there. ![]() That includes you Shark. ![]() PS: They are showing Lawrence on the 25th. Ok, who's not going to that one? ![]() ![]() Quote:

![]() If RAH is indeed attending you can be sure that you'll get to see excellent prints of his three restorations (Vertigo, Spartacus, LoA). |

![]() Been trying to attend a 70mm festivals in the UK, and Germany, for years. But work has always interferred. Not going to let it happen this time around. Spartacus should be good, as a 91' restoration print is being shown. Last edited by Dennis M; 08-26-2010 at 08:31 PM. |
