I'm pretty sure it coming default on your console. If it's not there anymore, you or someone else probably deleted it.

There's a link on your XMB that tells you to download Folding@Home but it was never 'bundled' with the PS3 as software.

Not too thrilled with this. More pretty than the Wii weather/news channels. I'll be sticking to my normal news sources!

I'm pretty sure I didn't download anything on my 2nd PS3 I bought in Feb. (40GB). I can't remember back to the 60GB (too much excitement).

Which PS3 do you have?

I live in Montreal so my city is already there. I know i can go on the weather channel and look up 5 day etc but i frankly prefer the way it's set up on LWP. I turn on my ps3 at the beginning of the day anyways , might as well start with this and play my music at the same time.

I'm going off of the 60gb one, so maybe the 40gb has it already.

I got my launch 60gb replaced last month by Sony with a new 60gb and I had to download the program again (with a link to download, then install). So, it might have only been like that on the launch systems.

Maybe if some more 40GB owners can add something, we can be more sure one way or the other.

Is it just me, or is this app extremely lame. It should give a few more customization/localization options.

What a massive waste of 128 MB's; I want my 8 MB F@H app back.

Yea. Some people also don't want to keep a $600 piece of equipment and risk it failing, and some people don't want to pay the extra $20/month it costs to power it. Aren't people just evil?

I haven't ran folding at home in ages. It costs way to much for something that hasn't accomplished much. I'll just donate the $20/month it takes to run to St. Judes- where I know it actually makes a difference. But hey, I guess I'm self absorbed.

It's just you. Well, and a few others selfish "ungrateful bastards" (thx Saprano).

It's not an X360! ...in danger of failing? Please. BTW, they are $400 and $500. People are really evil...just selfish as hell! Look at you talking about $20 extra a month. You don't even know if that true. It doesn't hold true for me. My bill has increased $5 to $10 a month. I believe only running your PS3 24/7 is about $20 extra per month.

You can set it to run when you have been idle for 10/15 mins. You can set it to turn off 2 hours after you walk off to go to bed like I do. Do something. Help people. If you are too selfish to help a worthy cause, at least don't get on this thread trying to persuade person to join you.

Only a selfish person would engage in the type of posting you have done here. It's shameful. If you won't even dedicate a few hours a day to this easy thing, I doubt you donate to St. Judes. Potentially helping to save lives does NOT suck (especially when you can do it from your couch)! Now, just stop it.

Some changes I would like to see:

Local time displayed for each city
The web cam picture needs to be a lot bigger
To read the news you really need to be able to zoom in like you can in the normal browser
I would like to be able to choose my home city (Mine should be London, but it keeps opening on Madrid)

Otherwise I think this is great

I think that LWP is great, although it could use some work. Keep in mind that LWP is only considered at this point to be in the early stages, much like the ps3's browser was. There were some bugs in the earlier version of folding@home, that have been fixed, from what I can tell. I'm wondering if LWP will encourage more people to run folding@home, since you can't run one or the other at this time?

Any thoughts are appreciated.
How about unpluging any USB devices and trying the update again. If it still fails, then you could try deleting folding@home, and then installing it again.

The Work Units completed stat tracked by Stanford Uni across all platforms isn't downloaded to the client so if you reinstall F@h or Life with PlayStation you'll lose the local count of WU's completed.

Life with PlayStation keeps track of a PS3 exclusive WU's completed stat that's attached to your PSN account so it can be easily downloaded if you reinstall LwP.

Scientific research takes time. Look at the Hadron Collider, they've been building it for more than ten years now and have only been able to do 1 test.

Also remember that the F@H project is only about 8 years old. And more importantly, the leaps in computing power have only occurred very recently with the help of the PS3 and Nvidia cards. Before that, they were running at about 200 FLOPS with Pentiums 4s. Now they're running at 3681+ FLOPS.

Furthermore imagine if everybody adopted your refusal to contribute because it hasn't produced anything substantial yet. Then yeah, nothing will be accomplished.

Finally as the other poster stated you'll only get +$20 to your bill only if you run it for a whole month 24/7. And you yourself probably won't have to pay that much in Oklahoma. Check out the article by IGN about the cost of Folding:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/776/776347p1.html

Looks like its $7.89 for you in Oklahoma running 24/7 for a month. One or two WUs a week, at about 18 hours running time per week, won't hurt would it?

But hey if you just prefer to support a different cause like you local hospital, that's cool and I respect that.

Exclamation Suggestion for LIFE W/ PS

I'd like for you to view people who are currently logged in and folding, their location on the globe, and the ability to limit the view to certain criteria (your team, PS3'rs, New Yorkers, Top 500, etc.)

I'd also like to see chat added for active folders, the ability to play a game against someone (which would drop CPU power diverted to folding, but - hey - if you want to build a sense of community you have to be able to allow other things to happen while the crunching numbers. Reason being, I find the fact that I can't do Sh!t when F@H is running VERY annoying).

Give me some simple games to play at least while folding! Like Sudoku, Echochrome, frikken Yar's Revenge, Jumping Flash, Battle Arena To Shin Den, The original Wipeout - stuff that uses little CPU power compared to PS3 games so you can still use most of the power for folding... GIVE US SOME REAL GOODIES FOR LOANING YOU OUR MACHINES PEOPLE!!! Thank You.

The Doc

You're talking to a guy who's on his second replacement PS3. And I paid $600.
