Well, you lost me...the PS3 took a crap last night - overheating looks to have caused the video processor to die out on me

I really can only blame folding for this...I don't hard core game and don't watch a movie everyday in the thing but it has been left on for folding purposes non-stop in a well ventilated, cool house in open air and has been dusted regularly.

Whether I mail it in to be fixed or just buy a new one, it will not fold anymore...

We are team 100 on kakaostats and 101 onextremeoverclocking.com, The difference is due to the fact that Kakao is only counting active teams bu extreme counts all teams.

I had to shut down my original 60GB, but my backup 60GB is still chugging away.

Yes, that would be the culprit but in a good way. When the PS3 was released it was the most powerful single system for folding on - however time marches on and now nvidia GPU's rule the roost in terms of folding power (unless you want to go really extreme on the hardware). This will not last forever and it could be ATI in the future, in the mean time fold on as best you can all contributions from any machine are greatly appreciated by stanford.

BTW i've managed to get most of my folding rig working again - unfortunately i am down 1 8800gt as one of the PCIE slots is defunct

Not to mention, GPUs are VERY limited in the work units it can handle. The Cell works on a much wider variety of work units than a GPU. That's the difference.

This is very true, the Cell and regular CPU's get a much wider variety of work units. Hopefully the new GPU3 client will start to change this as well as the new generations of GPU's that are entering the market.

I just signed up. I have completed 1 work unit (just starting last night, and leaving it on overnight. I won't be doing that every night, but every now and again I'll leave it going overnight.

Its quite a good read but already some of that info is out of date.

You can now mix and match any nvidia GPU from the 8,9 or GT200 series as long as you have the latest software installed and they could have used that i7-920 to fold the big projects by big I mean 25Kppd or more!!!

Unfortunatley that has never been possible and I don't think it ever will be, however they won't ever be lost - you'll just have to remember to add both scores together. If it does become possible i'll let everyone know.
