Although I have not heard the 40GB PS3 in action, from what I hear, it seem to run more quiet than its predecessors, 60GB & 20GB, along with its lower heat output. However, my 60GB PS3 does seem to up my room's temp by about 3-5 degrees Farenheit more if I leave it on for a at least 24 hours running the Folding @ Home program; I also usually keep the door open as to not let that much heat build up, but leaving on my 60GB PS3 w/F@H does seem to create much heat though. What about you guys?

I have the 40GB PS3 and it runs quiet as anything. Been Folding@Home for 5 straight days now 24/7 and it sounds like it did after I turned it on the first day.
Supposedly according to what I read the 40gig with 65nm process draws 135 watts compared to 220 or so with the old 60gig and 80gig due to the bigger nm chipset. The system runs warm but not hot and the only noise whatsoever is what sounds like the smallest cooling fan I can hear barely 2 feet from it from the couch you can't hear anything 6 feet away. The Xbox I was lke jeezus it sounded like my old 2x CD-ROM reading discs from 10 years ago. ![]() |

It was rumored that third-generation PS3s (40 GB) would be using Cell CPUs of 65nm [49][50], Sony has revealed that this is indeed correct after an initial denial. I would have to agree that my 40 GB PS3 folds much quieter than my older 60 GB. It runs quieter and where my 60 GB would pour out heat from its well-ventilated chasis, the 40 GB just has small soft fan running that you can barely hear. This would tend to support the 65 nm cell theory.

Oh, I'm still here. Though I don't fold these days. I'm kind of trying to conserve power these days. I own 2 PS3 consoles. Might start up again someday now that it's winter. This way, I can heat my room up. Hee hee.

Actually, it never had a logo to start with. Whoever hold the rights to the website's logo, it would be greatly appreciated if I would get your permission to use it as the team logo.

But lately it has been pretty cold so it makes my living room more comfy. ![]() I've noticed that our team is doing really well -- at # 189 now! I wonder how high we can take it? |

It would take a lot of PS3. Right now, Google is #1 with over 400,000,000 points. We are only over 6,000,000 points at the moment. If we want to beat them, we would have to take in at least a hundred more users including myself. I've been neglecting my duty to do so for the last few months. Eeps.

wow, I have my vent closed in my room with the ps3 running non-stop and it is hot as hell in here(I crack the window at night). It's been in the 40's with the low 20's at night, you must have one of them 65nm's or something. I should add my lcd does put off a decent amount of heat as well(but nothing compared to the ps3). Still the fans are audible but not overly so that it makes it hard to sleep or anything, very well engineered piece of equipment imo.

Just checked and 188 now, we might be pushing 150 by new years(if not there). I've had my ps3 folding for 3 days straight now with no break and I still somehow fell 4 spots... I'd add my comp into the mix but it would take 100 or so days to do a unit
