Folding@home is a distributed computing project which is governed by Stanford. Basically, while you aren't using your PS3 or PC you can "fold proteins" (which is basically just doing some computations) and upload the results. You'll never even know that you're doing it. My PC does it while I'm idle (and when I'm on the PC it will not take as much CPU) and the PS3 will do it as a screensaver-style program when you leave it on but are not playing a game.
Basically, you are helping research cures for diseases such as cancer, parkinson's, or other genetic diseases/disorders. Our team is just the collection of all of our individual machines' work added together. |

Our Folding@Home team just surpassed the 525,000 points needed to be amongst the top 60.

This is awesome. I hope we can break into the top 10.
Imagine... all these blu-ray supporters (PS3 owners) helping mankind decipher some of the worlds most complex scientific problems. That is just too cool. ![]() |

Dumb question... When you're folding, can you do anything else with the PS3? I have the folding app installed on my PC's at work and they're all capable of multitasking but I don't know that the PS3 version is.
BTW... cracked into the top 80 today! I'm gunning for the Top 40 so look out fellas, here I come! |

New Folding@Home Features Coming
![]() I don't quite get the music channels thing but I'm sure it'll be pretty self explanatory once we get our hands on it. |
