I've just joined up. I keep my PS3 on most nights for folding. This looks like a huge team of folders here.

Yeah but the PS3 can only run certain types of calculations like implicit solvation calculations (where the water in the protein is mathematically implied as opposed to actually simulated). So it may complete WUs faster but having PCs run folding@home allows the researchers to run important calculations that can't be done on the PS3. My point is, folding on your PC is just as important even though it might be slower

I had just started to start folding right before version 1.3 hit. I competed two sets. Not much, but you have to start somewhere. Then along came 1.3. Now, since I've downloaded this last version, I can't get past the original two sets. It still says seven hours till complete, etc, but after the countdown runs out, it should say three competed sets. It still says two, though. Twice I've competed a set, only to still say two competed sets. WTH?

If using a PS3, you must enter a donor name or the default name will be "PS3". Check your settings. While folding, press the triangle button. Then select "identity", then "change donor name". Also, double check the "join an existing team" option and make sure the team number is 56895. Hope this helps.

Just joined the team.
I had 5 WU's under my belt before joining.
My question is this.
How in the hell do you get so many work units done.
Do you guys just leave your ps3's on 24/7.

I think some folks here have been folding since they first got their PS3 in 2006. I myself have had my 60GB PS3 since November 2006, but only started folding about a week ago after getting a 2nd PS3 (40GB) for xmas. So I too am very low in the ranks.

I just moved teams from the PS3 team (since launch) to the Blu team. Do my 291 workunits come with me, or does it start at 1?

Try deleting the F@H client from your PS3 (At the XMB highlight it and press triangle, then delete) You can download it again and see if it works this time.

Also remember that the WUs ("sets") have deadlines meaning if you don't complete it in a certain amount of time then you will not be credited.

If all else fails go to the F@H PS3 client forums:

http://foldingforum.org/viewforum.ph...c38b1228cb0549

And see if somebody else has the same problem as you. There is a Sony Development Person on the Forums to help out

Your new team won't be credited with previous WUs. But on the "My Statistics" page it will still be listed and included in the Grand Total rankings, as long as you don't change your Donor Name

Thanks. I'll do that. Thankfully I've only downloaded two sets, so no big loss.

Okay I just started "folding". It's my first day with my PS3, I don't know what the hell I'm doing but I hope it's working. What exactly does folding do? In simple terms?

The PS3 has two modes of folding. One is the normal mode of 8-10 hours of folding, which is the default. I think this is the "implicit solvation calculation" you're talking about. The other mode is a far more intensive, which requires you to not do anything but fold on the PS3. I think this is the "explicit solvation" calc? I could be wrong.

Folding doesn't do anything special to your PS3. It is however a big effort to map how proteins in the human body build up through the act of "unfolding" or "folding" itself. Knowing this map may help us cure or prevent all sorts of genetic or viral disease.

It is important that we as a group continue to fold but it's more important to get all the new members involved in folding.

We should be getting a lot of new PS3 owners very soon now that blu-ray has won the format war.
