Two important things about folding stats:

1) It takes a while for the stats to be updated and VERIFIED. Be patient.

2) If you took a long time between folding ONE work unit, say more than 4 days, that work unit is cancelled out. I believe the server recognize that you've not finished with it and assigned the work unit to somebody else who did finish it. So if you are a casual folder, stop folding at the beginning of the work unit.

True - I've found that my stats shows up on the following three stats sites in this order (all three links are to the Blu-Ray.com team)

1) the official Folding@Home site can take up to 2.5 hours after submitting a finished work packet to show up http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...&teamnum=56895

2) KakaoStats. After the points show up in the official FAH site, the next time stats are run on Kakao the numbers will show up, which makes sense as I believe Kakao works from a FAH data feed
http://kakaostats.com/t.php?t=56895

3) ExtremeOverclocking.com - again, it picks up the points on the stats update after they have been posted to the official FAH site - you will see a "Processing" status while it is completing the status update. It tends to update less frequently than Kakao
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=56895

Of course the benefits of KakaoStats and EOC's site is they are always available, plus they have different charts/graphs.

Now to answer the question of "what is the deadline and points allocation for work packet #", look here:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html

You will note that the PS3s have the shortest 'final deadline' compared to all of the other packets (2-6 days), and yes if you miss the deadline for a work packet you won't get any points.

Or use the automatic shutdown "after current" so that the PS3 won't even download a new WU, it'll just turn off

I'm having a hard time finding the benefit of running my new unit for 12+ hours straight (keep in mind I'm not a gamer, so I don't use my PS3 for anything more than 2-3 hours at a time) Just seems like this is more stress than the unit was designed for, in regards to operating time..... will this run while the unit is in standby??? I'm still kinda in the dark about the folding thing... I looked it up, and understand the principal behind it.

the other thing I don't get (keep in mind I haven't tried any of this) is what the "ranking" and "points" and all of this other stuff people are talking about, and what the purpose of it is??? And Teams>??? what??

The benefit is you're contributing your processing power to research.

Some hardcore gamers play 12 hours straight. So it won't overheat like a certain "nexgen" console.

It won't. Standby means the unit is turned off.

It's to encourage people to fold more by being competitive.

My PC is folding as well and normally a unit would fold with an average speed of about 1% every 20 minutes. However, the last unit I received takes about 2+ hours to move 1%. WOW.

Only 457 members on the blu-ray.com folding@home team? We have to have thousands of PS3s owning people on these forums. We're just doing "good enough" which should be insulting.

There is something going on. Two days ago I notice that my PS3 was not getting any points, it was downloading new work units but it could not upload any results. I could not find any solution on their website so I reinstalled folding and the new WU was est to take over a day and a half.

Now when I take a look at the stats at: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=56895
I notice alot of 0 in the points update, so I know I'm not the only one having problems.

It's not more stress than the unit was designed for, remember Folding@Home was designed by both Stanford and Sony which means it will be well inside the product's operating limits. Sony has an incentive not to have PS3s break down because they'll incur huge warranty costs (1 billion penalty for MS and the 360 remember), plus a tarnished reputation which will hurt profitability. Now if this was designed by a group of guys in a basement in Silicon Valley or by Stanford alone then I would be worried, but it's not.

As anecdotal evidence: I've been running mine for the last 2 weeks 24/7 without a hitch.

It doesn't really mean anything, you can fold as anonymous and not join a team and still contribute a lot. The only reason they did it is to spark competition among people, then later among teams, to encourage them to fold more thats all.

For those noticing problems with their folding on the PS3, the folding team is aware and working on the situation, but it's not all figured out yet:
Quote:
We've been working constantly the last few days to improve the PS3 situation. Based on our statistics, the situation has gotten better. A few days ago (at its worst), it was very bad (~80% failure, which means 5-6 retries on average or more to get WU's back). We're seeing more like 20-35% (1-3 retries) right now and the trend is getting better and better. We have added some additional PS3 servers, and done some major code changes. A new client should fix this issue introduced in 1.3 so this doesn't happen again. For now, our server-side changes should take care of this in time, although it may take a few more days to settle down to say 1% failures (more typical). We have also extended deadlines to compensate for this problem.

I finally just joined the team...I used folding when it first came out, but I was a bit confused about it and I wasn't sure I wanted to leave the PS3 on so I deleted it. Let me know some of your settings that you have it on that you find desirable...anything that you think is useful I'd like to know about. Sorry if these things have been posted in previous pages of this thread...I'm just heading off to bed now and thought it would be easier to to just ask and come back to some replies in the afternoon.

Default The latest from the Stanford team...

Here is the latest on the PS3 work unit processing issue they've been having. They will be posting daily updates until the issue is resolved: (courtesy of http://folding.typepad.com/)

PS3 server issues, update #4

We know this is an issue of concern, so I'll be publishing daily updates until it's taken care of for good. As posted in update #3 yesterday, we expect it to take a couple of days for our fixes to truly kick in. So far, so good -- the WU failure rate is now down to about 35% across the board and the servers have stabilized somewhat. There's still a ways to go from 35% to the normal values, but at least everything is going as expected for this fix. A client update from Sony would fix this issue for good without the extreme server side machinations we've had to do, and we are working with them on that as well.

Every little bit counts for maximum efficiency and production.

If you have media server enabled, turn it off. Go to Network Settings at the bottom of Settings on the XMB to do so.

Then go to the Folding@Home app, set it to "advanced" folding in the settings. Turn off the sounds and disable music. Press square until the protein simulation is minimized on the lower right corner. Turn on screensaver. Then make sure all the controllers are turned off, including the BD remote (press the PS button and select turn off controller just to be sure). Disconnect/turn off any external hard drives connected to it. Turn off your TV and receiver. Turn on your TV 20 minutes later to make sure the screensaver is engaged. If it is not then one of your controllers is turned on, most likely the BD remote. If it is, then you're in folding heaven my friend, turn the TV off .

To be in a higher level of heaven go to all your PCs and Macs in the house and download the client for those systems and start folding on them as well.

You have to prove to the taxman that during this period, you folded a certain number of proteins and used this much on electricity. It's really not that much though and Stanford has yet to make an FAQ on that, so claim at your own risk.
