One of the things we've learned the hard way is, with Vista, do not let F@H install to it's default location (Program Files). Install it to the root directory (C:\Folding). Vista is "quirky" in that it doesn't want to run programs when they're installed in your Program Files directory . I wonder why MS recently dropped the price of the Vista.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that your team is looking great and forcing the rest of us to push harder. Happy Folding!
Did you Dell dudes see the light and go out and buy a number of PS3's or something?

LOL! We raised the overclocks on our home built machines to insane levels , and we went on a "recruitment tour". It's all for a great project, so who cares if we melt a few CPU's !

But bluflu, I have you in my sights.

Hey guys. Just joined the Blu team! I started last night with a WU that was supposed to be done @ 7am PST this morning. I had already completed 1 wu but i wasn't on a team and hadn't created a name. It was around 10% complete when I went to bed. Then when I checked this morning, I sas still at 1 wu completed when I expected to see that I now had 2 wu's complete, 1 from before i joined the team and 1 after. And me percentage this morning was reading 4%, like it had finished the previous wu and started a new one. But when did I still show just one wu completed? Then i checked my stats and it said i had 0 wu complete and 0 points.

Anyway, I'm very excited be part of this team and I was reading up on this thread over the weekend but wasn't at home to join until late last night.

I tried to start Folding on my ps3 today and it was stuck on checking for updates for about 3 minutes. The hard drive light was active so I didn't turn the power off.

Anyone else have this?

Now my Vista Ultimate install doesn't mind it there...created a shortcut to the desktop and it runs all the time...
Gotta love the points being gained on the SMP client. Shot up from 213 to 201 on the team rankings overnight!

I OC'd my processor (4 months of break-in is enough as far as I am concerned) to 2.8 (vs. 2.4 stock) on the 4 cores to give me some more processing power...the wife noticed only because of the heat being generated (60°C). I need to pick up some 140mm fans for my case to keep the air moving.

I've seen this happen if I'm not logged in to the Playstation network before starting folding. It needs the network to check for updates. It'll be fine if you're not online, but it does take a minute or two to timeout in its attempts to phone home. I usually just make sure I'm connected before I start to fold.

Tell me about it. I thought I'd never seen anyone tear up to #1 faster than melikefish... that is, before I saw icemanbd. He's got some serious horsepower. But as I learned, it's only temporary until he has to give up his 16 processor box to blu-ray.com for one of its main servers. We'll see if he has a chance to get to #1 before they take his box away.

PaulB404 was King of the Hill for a long, long time. But it looks like his reign is nearing its end. At least he was a kind dictator while he lasted. We'll see how it is under melikefish's reign. At least until or if he gets passed by icemanbd. We shall see...

It used to be that 2 PS3s would ensure you a position in the top 10. But now, I don't think that's true anymore. I think you have to have at least 3 PS3s (or several PCs) to get into the top 10.

Agreed, the top 10 is viscious!

I cheated. A friend had let me borrow their PS3 while they were out of town. I was running 3 PS3s for about a month.

They don't call him the Iceman for nothing. He's going to put the Fish on ice.

This is really annoying, every night or so, I fold for a couple of hours or so, even completed some work units, but I don't seem to be getting credit for it, which means the Blu-ray team probably isn't either. Anyone else having this issue? I thought the 1.31 patch fixed this?

I think that you have to complete a Work Unit within two days (typically) in order to get points. PS3 has very short deadline for unit completion.
Try running F@H for about 4 hrs a day to see if it fixes the problem.

If you run your PS3 all night to be sure you get the work unit done in time, you should definitely see your work unit count go up by one the next morning. If it does not and you are certain that you finished the work unit within 3 days of your PS3 downloading it, then I would uninstall folding@home and re-download it from the PS store. Others have reported this type of anomoly in the past and this has resolved it. Let us know how it goes.

I sure hope they develop a feature that turns on the PS3 which folds for X hours & then turns off. It's sometimes extra work to go over to set everything up. My PS3 usually folds a bunch on the weekend and then 7 hours during the weeknights and is set to shut off before my wife wakes up.

They do. You can set it to turn off after completing a unit.
