Tell me about it, the weather lady my wife watches in the morning is almost never right.

I always joke that if I do the opposite of what she predicts I'll be OK

This probably has been explained before but...

What can F@H exactly lead too? I understand that it virtually folds proteins so sciencist's can research it, but once they find out the proteins patterns and such, could this be used to reverse the process of cancer and other dieases?

That is a good question. Someone may have a better explaination then me, but take my theory for a start. Folding@home allows standford university to understand more about protein misfolding. Every ps3 that folds sends data back to the university. Eventually new knowledge would allow doctors to cure diseases that before would be considered not curable. It would be used to reverse the process of cancer. The whole point of folding on a ps3 is that the hardware processes data faster then previously thought possible so this program is thought to one day find a cure for diseases that are not curbile at this time.

Gamekid is on the right track. Take a look at this thread at the official forum:

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4992

And here is the published results thus far:

If you have more specific questions, the Folding Forum is where the Pande Group discusses issues and answers questions. You can also find more civil discussion at the forums of the top teams. You don't have to be a member of those teams to join in the discussion or ask questions at those forums.

Default Quick question

I have a quick question about folding@home.

When you are folding, how do you know how much time you have left for the current work unit?

it tells you on the screen. There is a percentage/progress bar and it says time remining underneath.

I didn't make my question clear. My bad. I have heard that when you fold, you only have a certain amount of days to work on the unit. If more time passes then the university assumes that the work unit is not coming back.

I believe it is one week for PS3 units. They had the timeframe on the FAH website. It may be longer now that some of the units take several days.

The information is only on the FAH website, no where else?

Not that I recall, but there is no timer showing how long you have before the unit is due, just a generic timeframe.

As far as I can see, the deadline is not listed anywhere on the screen for the PS3. But you don't have that information readily at hand with any other client either. To see what the deadline is for a specific unit, take a look at this page:

http://calxalot.net/downloads/others/psummary.html

Different units will have different deadlines depending on how long they take to crunch. Note the difference between preferred deadline and final deadline. Also keep in mind, every once in a while, you will get a 4044 but the PS3 says its a 4043. I thought that they finally fixed that, but I have one right now that's doing it.

Like Motion Sensitive Controllers.... Didn't the PS3 come out before the Wii?

Except the PS3 doesn't have a motion sensor control, aka a pointer in the case of Wii. The PS3 uses axis tilting style. In the case of Warhawk, tilting a ship by the tilt of your controller. Can the Wii do that? No. It can only point, like a remote control that it is.

It's something best use for power point presentation, or something.

Speaking of stealing or copying ideas, I recall the PS2 was the first console to stand up. (diagonal wise)

Long even before the 360 and the Wii came about.

The wii remote isn't base on axis though, it's base on pointing precision.

Nomatter how much it seem like it's detecting your motion, it isn't.
All it does is connecting point A to point B.

I believe I have played this game you speak of. Once.
