Wow, Dark Force is releasing Eva The Savage Venus "a.k.a. Kong Island" (1968) on Blu-ray?!
Now that's one hell of an obscure and mostly forgotten title from the past.
I absolutely love seeing announcements for these types of films, especially the ones that are completely "new to Blu-ray".
A deep cut from Italy like this is an instant purchase for me, anytime and every time baby!

Yo Dave, would the Dark Forces ever consider restoring and releasing any cinematic schlock from the 1950s or perhaps even earlier?
There's still plenty of amazingly bizarre/entertaining horror, science fiction, and exploitation films from back then that desperately need to be rescued before it's too late.
Many of the other boutique labels appear to have little or no interest in pursuing them, "sad to say".
Just some food for thought... "hint, hint"...

So, the Dark Force Blu-ray with the uncut version was a total revelation to me.
I can imagine that being quite a contrast, did you initially enjoy the movie despite the cuts?

Come to think of it, they also realize their dream in the uncut version, albeit it is very short lived.

Yes, I did enjoy the TV version. I recall thinking, "Wow, a biker flick without any violence."

I once met Quentin Tarantino about 8 years ago, and told him that I thought that his DEATH PROOF owes a debt to THE YOUNG CYCLE GIRLS. He said that he hadn't seen THE YOUNG CYCLE GIRLS.

He may have seen it under one of the alternate titles - the Cycle Vixens or the Cycle Girls.

QT claimed that he hadn't seen it. He had seen HOLLYWOOD HIGH from the same director and didn't like that one at all. I told him that he really needed to find the uncut version of THE YOUNG CYCLE GIRLS, and he replied that he would look for it.

Thank you Ruined. I'm pretty pleased with it. We had to work on it a while to get it there. I really like KONG ISLAND and am thrilled with how this transfer came out. When I was a little kid I was way more obsessed with B movies than I was studio pictures for some odd reason. This one has all the ingredients that make them so irresistible.

I saw The Bride Wore Black not too long ago and went online afterward and saw that Tarantino claims he never saw the film despite some similarities to Kill Bill. He also seems to talk a lot a shit about Truffaut, which given Tarantino's obsessive personality, makes it seem unlikely he never saw Bride before making Kill Bill, imo.

Cruisin', cruisin', cruisin'...

I watched this today as well. What a great drive-in flick! The whole journey from Colorado to Cali was ridiculously nostalgic and amazing, all the misadventures the girls had end up being so bittersweet, it really does pack a punch at the end. It's obviously not a super-professional production, but the authenticity and snapshot of the era make it essential. One of the best purchases I've made this summer. And I don't like bluegrass/country/whatever all that much but the Cruisin song will indeed live in my head for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, the "Movin' on Down the Line" song is catchy. The fine cinematography was done by Ron Garcia, who also directed THE TOY BOX and worked on a boatload of exploitation films.

I think it was like $6.99 or $7.99? I don't recall exactly. It's only $12.99 now so still would be worth it if you like these kinds of Crown-ish '70s movies.

Ya except I just ordered that Kong movie last night, so reached out to see if I could possibly have that one cancelled so I can reorder both

That’s a perfect descriptor for it, would fit nicely into their catalog.

I'm gonna be honest - I'm still feeling burned by the "My Pleasure is My Business" purchase and was going to wait til reading reviews before purchasing any further Dark Force titles. That said, Kong Island sounds right up my alley. I've never even heard of it, but I love those Gungala jungle girl movies and this sounds similar, so I went ahead and placed an order for this and Ride a Wild Stud. Hopefully this will be the uncut version as promised.

I will say, I do love it when titles I've never even heard of get released. These and known, but new to disc titles are what get me excited as a collector, not the endless stream of re-releases. Please keep these type of films coming, Dave.
