Cool scene choices, agreed.

For me, it's between

[Show spoiler]Kylo Ren trying to get into Rey's head and failing and Rey letting him know it, and Han confronting Kylo Ren in his attempt to save and bring him back before the bombs go off.

If I can only pick one, it'll be the latter one. That was significant to the Star Wars saga.

Same can be said for you dude, if someone doesn't like the movie they don't need you telling them they are *****ing because they didn't like the movie, it is just entertainment so why get so bent out of shape if someone else wasn't as entertained by it as you? I loved the movie, I also really enjoy the prequels but I am not going to let it bother me if someone else doesn't like it. This is a DISCUSSION forum people are allowed to discuss what they thought of the movie, if they liked it then share that and why, if they didn't like it share that and why.

The criticisms are not just since the hype has worn off, people were discussing their potential worries about the film ever since it was announced, and some of those people were proven wrong and others were not.

It's been pointed out before, but there are far too many variables at play besides inflation to truly make any sort of accurate or meaningful "adjusted" comparison:

Heh, there is that to consider whenever people talk about how you can't compare figures from then and now. While I agree that older movies put more arses on seats, they also had a SHEDLOAD of re-releases over time (without home video to contend with) which bulked them up considerably, so these modern single-run numbers really are just as impressive in their own right IMO.

Congrats to TFA. I honestly thought winning the domestic BO was possible but a longshot. Still, the worldwide BO record is likely staying with Avatar. TFA will probably topple Titanic and end up at #2 all-time.

I still can't believe how Avatar became the highest grossing film ever. It was pretty good, but nothing special without the 3D. I guess at the time there was a lot of hype surrounding 3D.

The "denial" if any, would be on your part, not mine.

TFA is definitely not my favourite SW movie, but at heart I am still a SW fan and enjoy it even in its new, diluted form. I'd rather see a SW movie at the top of the BO charts instead of anything from Cameron.

Still, my love does not allow me to blind myself as to the reality of inflation-adjusted figures. If you are actually being business-minded about this, it doesn't take much to see that a million of 2015 dollars is puny compared to a million of 1939 dollars.

There really was, yep. 3D is ubiquitous nowadays and there were certainly newer 3D flicks before Avatar, but in 2009 it was at the forefront of this latest push for 3D. And having James Cameron's first film in 12 years be in 3D was kind of a big deal.

I thought the movie was terrible because during the opening crawl the lettering was more yellow than the gold color that was used on the previous 6 movies.

I can say, really enjoyed it. The little nine year old boy from 1977 inside me had a lot of fun. The movie, the style really had a Star Wars feel to it even without much of Lucas being part of it. I did find the First Order a little weak compared to the old Sith and the Empire but it was nothing major. They look a little like a minor league while the others were the major leagues But I am sure they may well grow on me over the next movies and it was not enough to really change anything on enjoying the movie. Was quite fun to see Han, Leai and Chewie again together. I cannot wait to see more of Luke in the next one. Very good fun movie, everything I would expect from Star Wars

It was awesome in 15/70 IMAX 3D, to be fair. I've never seen better 3D than that, not in regular 3D cinemas, not even other IMAX 3D movies.

I see why it hit the top spot, just like Titanic it was a spectacle people wanted to see again on the big screen, what I don't get is why it made such huge numbers overseas, it was an incredible success. I guess it just ticked all the boxes and hit a sweet spot of the right time and place.
