Tarantino on the wish list??? Hell NO!
He's not even worth mentioning to direct SW. Not even close.
Simmah down now. I just cited Tarantino as an example as a director whom has issues with Disney. Would I want him to direct Star Wars? Absolutely not. His vision doesn't work for Star Wars. If I had it my way, there wouldn't be anymore films. I think the Saga is pretty much complete and more films might somehow cheapen the saga in some way. But I guess we will see.

But here is a list of Directors who have all said 'No' to wanting to direct this thing. Oddly Tarantino is on it... right after Spielberg. He was on somebody's wish list enough to ask him if he would do it if offered.

I think it was down to him being speculated on the Internet that he was even a candidate in the media's eye, and when he answered how he did in the interview where he was asked would he direct this it kind of stopped the rumours. Not sure he was approached by anyone official regarding it.

It's the media. They probably are so hungry for news they just asked everyone who ever made a movie.

Again, Tarantino is a girl at a dance telling everyone she would never dance with a guy who had no intention of asking her to dance to begin with.

Tarantino will definitely do anything to get Tarantino in the media. Maybe it just got people talking about him again -- oh, and look at that, right in time for the release of Django Unchained...

It's like when they cornered Tom Hanks at some awards, and he brushed reporters off with "TS4? Sure, I'd do one if they asked, probably got one now."
Instantly media sites blasted "TS4 IN PRODUCTION." No, it is not. (And you know I didn't make that one up.)

The first thing anyone needs to know to weather the movie-buzz Internet is that there's a difference between an actual casting offer and a diplomatic "blessing", and how to know when an actor or director knows how not to say Never if he doesn't want to ruin his reputation with the studio. It's part of the job, like taking auditions.
I don't expect the Harrison Ford of "A Clear and Present Danger" to actually be called back to don his Corellian Pirate gear at 70, but that doesn't mean he's going to get all Carrie Fisher about it in public either. It's easy to be polite and supportive about something you're probably not going to get anyway, as you won't gain anything by sour grapes.

I'm pretty sure they already know who they want, or in fact, who they have, and just haven't told us yet. Just look how Ardnt already had the scripting job before it was announced. There's every chance the directing choice is in a similar boat.

True. And Kathleen Kennedy actually mentioned there are TWO writers working with George Lucas, so we have another writer yet to be announced. I'm sure they already have a director on board.

They did similar things during the prequels, teasing us with a little bit of info/images, week by week. It was fun. So here we go again.

just how much creative input does Lucas have now? He cant have that much control that directors are hesitant to take the job can he? Like if this Arndt guy re-writes the script and Lucas doesnt like it, thats just too bad right?

Essentially, yes. But Kennedy will probably try to stick close to what Lucas would like to see too, but I'd say there's a much healthier balance of creative control for the new filmmakers part compared to the control Lucas had on V and VI.

Thank goodness for that. I was one of the people who was really happy to hear about this. George Lucas no doubt has a great imagination and comes up with a lot of great ideas, but having so many others involved and even heading it is comforting.

In Part 2 of the video interview, George Lucas said that he will have the same role as he did in the original trilogy.

Agreed! I currently bought season 1 of The Clone Wars on blu ray and I cannot get over how much more I enjoy this series than I did the prequels. When you take GL's universe and put it in the hands of capable writers and a director, it's pure magic! I am LOVING this series! I often wonder why on Earth did Lucas pigeon hole himself into ONLY doing a trilogy that completely glosses over the events during The Clone Wars. He could've done an entire trilogy based on the clone war events alone! That certainly would've fleshed out all the characters better and gone a long way in establishing Obi Wan's and Anakin's relationship. That would've made the dual in episode 3 much more dramatic!

The problem is how you read the term "creative consultant" - I'd say that, essentially, Kennedy pretty much has Lucas in her pocket and can decide how much control he does or doesn't get. She'll probably stick to his vision mostly -- I mean, he created the Star Wars universe -- but I'm guessing that she could just as easily not listen to most of the things he says. Creative consultant is a wishy-washy term that implies either complete control over a project, or the producers realising that you need to be involved in some way for the fans to be happy and just giving you a little title with not much to do. I'd argue that it is probably the first, like Walt's Ghost said, but it's never completely clean cut.

Apparently, the Writers Guild of American disapproves of the title even being used.

He did, but he has said in other interviews that he will take much more of a back-seat role in this one because it's with Disney now and he is in the process of retiring anyway. Plus, I can't see that he can strong arm his way into that role for these now - he doesn't own Lucasfilm or Star Wars any more and that will seriously impact on how much he can control the films that come out. With episodes 5 and 6, he was in the position where he could do whatever the hell he wanted and had complete creative control over everything -- now that's Kathleen Kennedy's job, by the looks of it.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that he will have a lot of input, but the buck ulitmately stops at the studio who paid over $4 billion for the rights. If the execs want something that Lucas opposes, or if Lucas proposes something they don't like, the execs will get what they want.

It would have to be a fairly extreme issue, though. Most of that is going to be sorted out in the pre-pro process, including the screenplay.

Disney isn't like LucasFilm, Disney likes to pre-plan and then go get it done. Lucas is the polar opposite. On the prequels, he liked to futz and kanoodle in a continual un-ending creative process right up until release date. That's why John Williams had to essentially write "program music" for the prequels, he never had a locked print (which is why his work suffers compared to the OT).
