When Anakin was a boy he had all these special skills before he came across the Jedi's. Right?

So there is a precedent for someone having force skills before any training.

This kind of talk is frowned upon at Blu-Ray.com.

Same way Obi-Wan told Luke to use the Force. If you pay attention to the films, they didn't mean it as a direct skills of using the Force, but to trust their instincts, by opening their minds. Luke and Anakin both already skilled pilots through experience, their achievements are basically their own, with some assistance from the Force only for focus, not specific skills (pilot or swordplay) downloaded into their memories.

Just saw it for the 3rd time, and loved it still. I have seen 2 - 2D showings and 1 - 3D showing on the IMAX.

Holy shit! ‪Episode VII‬ was far better than I expected (had low expectations heading thanks to Episode I - III souring things for me). I also didn't want to be one of those biased guys that would in cliche fashion say "Best movie ever!" even if they knew the movie sucked.

Great storytelling, lots of action, balance comedy, and cool special effects. Believe the hype! It's a worthy sequel and the apology movie for the prequels! Go see it...NOW!!!

P.S. I went out of my way to avoid spoilers and I'm glad I did.

PROS:
[Show spoiler]
Hearing the opening and the force themes gave me goosebumps.

It was cool how they did BB-8's movements.

Finn is my favorite character. Thousands of Stormtroopers in the previous 6 films, but we never looked at it from their point of view. It blew me away!

Kylo Ren was badass even if he is angry Anakin Skywalker all over again. I also loved his broadsword lightsaber.

How they detailed the ships were in looks and motion.

Seeing the alien chess game!

Daniel Craig's (uncredited) cameo!

Rey being revealed to be able to use The Force!

The lightsaber fights.

The return of Admiral Ackbar!

CONS:

[Show spoiler]C-3PO's red arm.

Han Solo dying was a gut punch, but Harrison Ford hated his character anyway.

Han and Leia not having one last kiss.

Leia being a general instead of a queen. I also hated how she talked like grandma.

Kylo Ren being revealed to be Howard Stern's son.

I didn't care for the Oompa Loompa version of ET character.

What is old is new again. It was a sequel, but felt like a remake. Loner on desert planet finds droid with important information to take back to the Rebellion to take down Imperial forces super-weapon. Snoke = Palpatine, Kylo Ren = rookie Darth Vader, Hux = young Tarkin. I actually didn't have a problem with any of this, but I can see why some Star Wars weren't impressed by TFA.

I don't understand why they made the EU non-canon when they essentially used storylines from the books. Jacen Solo (Ben Solo) kills Han Solo (Mara Jade) while the Imperial Remnant (First Order) built the Starkiller (Suncrusher). Seems pointless to have made all those adventures not part of the official storyline anymore if they were going to re-use ideas from it.

Kudos to JJ Abrams. I look forward to the next one!

I just got back from seeing it myself. I more or less felt the same way. I expected it to be good, but not as good as it ended up being. I'd probably rank it under Empire and above Return of the Jedi.

One of my few complaints would be
[Show spoiler]Snoke. He felt like a poorer, cheaper version of the Emperor. My hope is that he becomes a more interesting character once we meet him in person and find out more of his backstory.

Also,
[Show spoiler]I felt that Kylo Ren was Anakin Skywalker done right. It's reversed--instead of a Jedi fighting the temptation of the dark side, Ren is an aspiring Sith resisting the light. I liked that.

That's a good point on Kylo. I got a kick out of his

I also thought that Adam Driver's Kylo Ren was better than Hayden's Anakin. Kylo to me seemed more like a "evil prince", who was both highly intelligent and mentally unstable. Hayden never showed intelligence like that... instead Anakin was more an idiot.

I liked his helmet design and lightsaber, they both seemed like Sith artifacts. And I thought it was cool touch how he would beat on his chest like that during the duel with Rey and Finn.

So yeah, overall, I was very pleased in how Kylo Ren turned out. Looking forward to seeing more of Adam Driver and his character in Episode 8.

Most kids today are more concerned with worshipping kim kardashian or whoever the flavor of the month is in the tabloids that they don't even apply themselves towards real hard work and being able to compete in a technical job market. So they get stuck at mcds or retail complaining they need a huge minimum wage without doing anything to deserve it.
I hate this arguement. Liberal arts degrees teach more than just the subject the degree is in. Critical thinking, writing, leadership, research. I have a liberal arts degree (History, specifically 20th century American political history with a minor in African American history) and I work in tech. I do my job well, my bosses love me, and I was hired *because of* my liberal arts degree (as was told to me during the hiring process).

As to the second highlighted part, the main audience for those types of shows is adults that like watching train wrecks.

The "kids" you're talking about don't actually exist. Sure there are some lazy people out there but most of the people in the millennial age group work hard and have jobs.

This is the same crap that EVERY generation says about whatever the "new" generation is. Look what they said about Generation X (my generation, I'm a hair away from 40) and look what we did: revolutionize tech and IT. The WW2 generation said the same thing about the baby boomers. It goes all the way back to the start of the modern era.

I noticed some wipe downs and diagonals. I'll have to try to pay more attention to them next time.

To me it felt like the editing moved so fast that it almost didn't have time for lots of transitions. IIRC the wipes are always of the same duration in Lucas' movies but perhaps they sped them up in TFA which is why we're missing them, at least at first glance?

Everyone should know who TR8-TOR is by now. The riot stormtrooper who took on Finn during the Battle at Takodana. He's all over the internet and already has a larger following/fan base than Captain Phasma and Boba Fett.

I was a little disappointed when Han blew him away.
