I didn't really see a problem with the story. Its clear that there was a effort to pay homage to the original trilogy and they did that with many aspects of the story, but at the same time I felt like all of the new characters and old ones as well gave the movie its own life while also paying homage to the previous movies.

And while the story may seem repetitive to some, I'd argue that is closer to real life than what people tend to realize. History has a tendency to be repetitive and be circular in nature. And ironically that is because people don't really look at history, they just keep movie forward and those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

There was quite a lot of footage cut out.

Hopefully they get included on the BD release.
What would be even better, but I highly doubt will ever happen, is a Director's Cut (or it could be titled Extended Cut) as it would be great to see the next to last cut, as I am sure that the 2hr40 cut will not have all the effects finished (and will probably be slightly too long).

I thought that the theatrical length of the film felt like it went by quickly. Another 10-15 minutes longer (to take it to 2.5 hours) would have been easy to digest and would have probably helped out an already excellent film.

On another topic:
I am sick of proles saying to me "The new Star Wars is a copy of the original"… IMHO, they are simple-minded jackasses that are braying and repeating what they are hearing around the water cooler and reading online without any real thought to all the new aspects of the Ep7 screenplay.
While Force Awakens did use 2 plot elements from Episode 4 (droid/plans & Death Star) it is a very different film. I don't see why people can't appreciate Ep7 on it's own, without making comparisons to A New Hope.

Episode 7 was one of the best movies of the saga so far. Episode 4 was not that great anyway! If one has to make comparisons to A New Hope, then one should accept that JJ borrowed elements and improved on the original film...

For mine, Ep 4 is average and smack in the middle when rating all 7 SW films --Episodes ranked First-Last: 5,7,6,4,3,2,1.

The shot in the teaser trailer where Kylo Ren walks into the dark forest and starts his tri saber was
[Show spoiler]sadly cut and replaced with the sound effect instead when he's after Rey and Finn, which we hear offscreen while looking at Rey and Finn. I so wanted to see that very cool Kylo Ren shot in the final movie, but they probably felt it was already ingrained in people's minds so they replaced it with the sound effect and made us fill in the blank, dependent on the teaser trailer. Hopefully they'll include all the trailers in the extras, along with the cut scenes/shots for Episode VII.

The Force Awakens was such a rehash of A New Hope. Why can't more movies be like Creed?

Every I see someone say "It's just a rehash of A New Hope", I will immediately assume that this was their real reaction.

"The same things happen as happened before." That's a common complaint about The Force Awakens. Know what else it is? The most profound and often frustratingly ignored truth about human history. Intentional or subconscious or not, it's a great metaphor. History has a funny way of repeating itself - the Star Wars mythos has always played that up. TPM is much like ANH at its core (a nobody is recognized for their greatness and whisked off to join a grand adventure) - as is TFA. But it always plays out in its own unique way. Really standing back and looking at TFA as a whole, I don't see a simple repeat of ANH at all - it's very much it's own thing.

But imagine how much better the movie would've been if instead of yet another light saber fight, Rey challenged Kylo Ren to a bake off and they were only allowed to use the ingredients already in the Starkiller Base kitchen.

I was looking for this during the movie and noticed it's absence as well as a couple others from the trailers. That and the missing character Constable Zuvio who was cut out and they even made figures for, only strengthen my hope that we'll get an EE bluray.

While I agree with you on the complaints levied by people who don't know how to make up their own mind, you lose all credibility ranking Jedi higher than Hope. Midgets in suits of fur, poorly written characters, the horrendous Yub Yub song at the end, do not make it a better movie. And that is just some of the problems.

It basically implies that you won the argument. That you put forth such a strong case that there just wasn't any real way to object to it.

I like how people who loved the movie freak out whenever someone has something bad to say about it, or criticize it for being a rehash of the OT. Except my mom, every other person who watched it had the same comment about it, and they're not people who go in the internet, read what most people say and repeat that.

I enjoyed the movie, but my biggest problem with it is that it teased a LOT of NEW and original stuff that seemed to be so interesting, like the training of the new Jedi by Luke, the Knights of Ren (seriously, what the hell is that, it was only mentioned and seen once as background characters during a hallucination), how did Maz get Anakin's lightsaber? The political state of the galaxy is merely mentioned, while in ANH is was rather more talked about, even mentioning the old republic, the emperor, etc. And for a long time before the movie came out, we were wondering the identity of the characters. Who is Rey? Well now that the movie is out, we can say...
[Show spoiler]Who is Rey? Because they answered nothing.

Instead of tackling those subjects I was really interested in knowing, they went for the
[Show spoiler]''let's blow up the death star before it destroys us'' 3rd act again.

It's a great, very enjoyable movie, but they didn't risk that much, they played it safe. That's basically what I think about it
