Like, if Abram's Han and Leia don't name their kids Jacen and Jaina, all the books I have with those names won't explode. And there's no way to fit the books in with the comics, either. Dark Empire doesn't make sense in the EU, but it's still a good read.

There is also two completely different Clone Wars cartoons that don't work together. And there is no space for Droids after we found out that Anakin built C3PO. And that one book where Luke was tracking down his mother contradicts stuff in the prequels. I'm sure the list goes on... there's just too much Star Wars for it all to work!

They definitely shouldn't do any time travel. That doesn't exist in Wars, or else the Sith would definitely use it to their advantage. Trek has always had time travel, so it worked.
Well it's been a while since I read any of those Star Wars books, but I remember that the Jedi Academy Trilogy specifically referred to those Dark Empire comics. And I remember the books about Luke's "mother" and it turning out the woman was lying.

But yeah, there's contradictions all over the place, especially considering almost all of the post-RotJ novels (until the New Jedi Order) were written before even Episode I came out. Hell, even the timeline in the entire series of Clone Wars novels and comics became contradicted once the Clone Wars cgi series came out.

As far as time travel, I agree with you there, doesn't really fit Star Wars. But the EU writers and editors usually throw out a story that explains contradictions to the timeline-- Boba Fett and his backstory is a good example of that. Timothy Zahn also wrote a novel about the Outbound Flight that was a plot point in his original novel trilogy, written in the context of the prequel trilogy. So I imagine they'll come up with something once Episode VII hits.

And personally, I don't think the new trilogy contradicting the EU is a bad thing. It's actually probably for the best. I know that if I was tackling Episode VII, I would want to come up with what I think would be the best story to tackle the next part in the saga after the original trilogy. And this likely wouldn't happen if I was being forced to work around decades of novels, comics, and videogames from various writers of varying degrees of quality.

I don't even want them to compromise. They've got enough on their plate as it is. Film Seven has to be incredible, or the whole thing is screwed.

Luke killed his own father. I think that would screw someone up over time, no? Luke being a hermit > Luke running around with little kids.
Except Luke didn't kill him. He redeemed him. How exactly should Luke want to be a hermit again?

I'm pretty sure you're right. I read all those books in primary school. Don't have the best memory either.

But I'm glad you get my point, still!

So glad this is bringing work to the UK at Pinewood Studios. They are getting some big Hollywood films these days.

Are these going to be made in the same "traditional" style as the first films, or is it going to be over the top lens flare, rapid cutting, shakey cam type nonsense?

I'm sure there will be a few nods to the older films, but Abrams is going to place his mark on this, make no mistake about that...and I don't blame him. He's earned my trust, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

As a huge fan of both Abrams Star Trek movies, I don't care if Episode VII is oozing his style, if he can make it as good as those movies my god I will be on board.

I'm pretty sure casting calls for all movies are like this. It's probably a nail biting venture to find someone that meets all of that criteria and can act!

I have to think some kind of tidbits will come out this week at Comic Con. Maybe confirm the old vets are returning at least?
