Agreed. I also think the pod race in TPM, while cool, went on far too long and the time could have been used to advance the story. Same with AOTC- lose that "romance" and show Anakin struggling with the Jedi hypocrisy and all their restrictions. Maul should have been the Vader of the prequels. Anakin finishing him off to take his place at Palpatine's side. Dooku was pointless. All the crap that Lucas wanted to cram into the prequels could not really be done in 3 films. It could have been like 4 or 5.

Luke killed his own father. I think that would screw someone up over time, no? Luke being a hermit > Luke running around with little kids.
I don't think Luke would be off running the kids to gymboree.
If anything Luke would have even more reason to ensure his offspring avoided the Dark Side. Solid writing could take care of this, easily.

As for Superman Returns, that was a great idea! Actually one of the best moments of the film IMO. I love that scene where the piano zips across the room to smash the bad guy. Never saw it coming, and thought it was brilliant. As Walt said, I just wish they would've stuck with the storyline, as it had great potential. Not a problem, as the new film looks nothing short of amazing.

I hadn't thought of how badly this is going to screw the EU until just now. We all know that they're not going to incorporate EU characters like Ben Skywalker or Jaina Solo. I wonder what's going to happen to the novel line after the new movies.

I mean, obviously, they stated they weren't adapting an EU storyline, but I'm just beginning to realize that there's just no way they'll even care to preserve it's elements AT ALL. It's sort of a shame really, because the EU has done a lot of good things.

I'm sure new characters will be introduced, thusly leading to new novel lines...and perhaps a new EU?(EU episode II)

Which I'm sure will be great, but it just seems like such a shame to ditch all the continuity they've established. I've been reading the novels since middle school. I'll miss them.

Unless you're selling them, they won't be going anywhere.
I have not been keeping up with the books, are there a lot of "loose ends" or follow up books due out, that have been cancelled?

They could even introduce some of Jar Jar Binks kids into the mix also.

The possibilities here are endless.

i also want to know what plans Singer had for Superman's son. Was it that he'd be a better version of Superman without any susceptibility to kryptonite?

And skip out on a scene where we get to see Luke fly his kids to space prom?

Last time kids were in a Star Wars film they got slaughtered. So watch out, children of the sequels.

The EU is a different universe to the films so in theory it will all stand on its own right

On the subject of Luke and kids i always thought of him a wandering warrior type character after JEDI, exploring the galaxy seeking out those who are strong in the force. Whilst i dont see him having kids, you know a man can get lonely whilst traveling so who knows?

Same here-- I started reading a bunch of the novels and comics way back in the day. Never did get around to reading the New Jedi Order or anything that came out after that, though.

But yeah, I'm thinking the EU, at least the post-Return of the Jedi stuff, is pretty much screwed. I'm actually curious to see what the writers and editors are planning on doing about this. I guess we won't know for sure until we see the films whether or not you can somehow work the EU stuff around them or not (not likely). Maybe they'll end up doing a time-shift story like Abrahms' Star Trek film, explaining why events in the novels/comics ended up differently than the later movies.

It really doesn't matter. I have Spiderman comics that contradict one another. Who cares? It's just a different artists take on the subject matter.

Like, if Abram's Han and Leia don't name their kids Jacen and Jaina, all the books I have with those names won't explode. And there's no way to fit the books in with the comics, either. Dark Empire doesn't make sense in the EU, but it's still a good read.

There is also two completely different Clone Wars cartoons that don't work together. And there is no space for Droids after we found out that Anakin built C3PO. And that one book where Luke was tracking down his mother contradicts stuff in the prequels. I'm sure the list goes on... there's just too much Star Wars for it all to work!

They definitely shouldn't do any time travel. That doesn't exist in Wars, or else the Sith would definitely use it to their advantage. Trek has always had time travel, so it worked.

There is no way they acan crowbar the massive amount of event that's taken place in the novels in the last 20 years into the new film. It will piss off a lot of fans who've read the books, but they need to be selective about what events they use and ditch the rest. It's the only workable compromise...

Im with you - Im not saying they have to take the novels verbatim but at least use some of the good concepts and story lines. Its been so long that obviously a lot of people have read the novels and consider it canon these days. Lets not pull an Abrams Star-Trek move and start a new thie line or whatever. That might work for Trek but not for this.

If they do it...I swear.... someone is going to pay dearly for it.
They already screwed up the character when they changed the Greedo scene in ANH. In its original form it was a defining moment for the character, you knew so much about his devil-may-care, selfish, mercenary character in that one instance.

Then they changed it and it just became another gun-fight, and not even a good one.
