The special edition shows them pulling down the Emperor's statue on Coruscant, which is pretty telling as far as the war being, at least in the "core systems," over.

Maybe they're only looking at the theatrical cuts for continuity though.

Default The Force Awakens With Topps In December 2015

From the article:

It's a new Star Wars movie. Of course there are going to be new trading cards. Topps confirmed at the Industry Summit in Las Vegas that they're making two sets based on Episode VII. 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 tackles the characters and bits of the story. The later second set follows after the movie's theatrical release, telling the entire story.

Details:

The 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 base set has 100 cards.

They'll be done in a full-bleed format, so no borders.

There are five levels of parallels including Printing Plates.

The product has multiple basic inserts totaling 90 cards. Foil cards and Stickers are among them.

Autographs play a key role in the premium insert portion of the set. Besides basic actor autographs, there are dual-, triple- and quad-signatures. Quads are done with a book card format that has, essentially, two cards connected together. 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 also has one-of-one Pen Relic Autographs that have pieces of the marker used during the signing. Autographed Printing Plates are also randomly inserted.

Other hits-based inserts include sketch cards and Medallion cards that come with bronze, silver and gold versions.

Estimated Release Date: 12/18/15
Product Configuration: TBA
Price Point: Low- to Mid-End Entertainment Card
Target Audience: Star Wars Collectors, Set Builders, Autograph Collectors

Default Oscar Isaac Explains How He Got His Uncle a Role in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Isaac, who appears on the cover of the April issue of Details magazine, explained how he won the title of Nephew of the Year.

According to the 35-year-old star, when he was cast in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, his uncle -- a huge Star Wars fan -- absolutely freaked out, and made T-shirts that read, "Estar Guars: Episode VII."

"I gave them to everybody and told J.J. Abrams, who was like, 'Does he wanna be in the movie?'" Isaac said. "He's an extra in a scene with me. How amazing is that?"

I think it's pretty much impossible to not be better than Truce at Bakura.

I guess it'll remain to be seen whether Disney is specifically acknowledging which version of the originals is the "correct one." I guess technically from a story/plot perspective there isn't much of a difference, the alterations are more about presentation and how we experience the films.

In the old EU, there was some evil Imperial lady (I forget her name) who had put a stop to the parading going on on Coruscant, since it was established in the story that the Empire still held the planet for a couple of years before Rogue Squadron helped take the planet for the New Republic. That was kind of another little retcon they had to perform after the Special Editions came out.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new creative team threw in a little bit of dialog or something to indicate the special edition additions aren't canon, just to be snarky. I bet they hate those editions as much as the fans do and they would have a unique opportunity to throw something small in that conflicts with the SEs.

Maybe I'm dreaming.

If so, I'd guess an homage to the Han shoots first. Hopefully not a bad alien music number with shoddy Playstation 1 cut scene CGI.

I agree. That new music Williams composed for the Special Edition sounded like something off of one of those little desktop Bed, Bath and Beyond calming waterfalls.

My mother kept telling me that I was exaggerating and taking my hatred of the Special Editions to ridiculous levels until I rented them from netflix and she saw that the Yub-Neb song had been replaced. I thought her head was going to explode Scanners style.

Lucas replaced the wrong cheesy musical number in Jedi.

lol

Anyway I don't think people didn't knew what Jabba the Hutt looked like considering that in the Star Wars universe the Hutt species isn't a guarded secret.

A four year old with a box of crayons could make a better looking Jabba than what ended up in the special edition of Star Wars.

Hopefully the CGI is on par with what Abrams did for Star Trek. Hopefully the screenplay is better though.

My wife is just young enough that she had only seen the originals on TV once before the SEs came out, and then watched those versions over and over through college and as an adult. One day the Yub-Neb song came up (somehow I was humming it and she was like "what's that") and she didn't believe me it existed till I pulled it up on youtube and showed her (in a crowded restaurant no less).

Last night I pulled out my DVD of the "unaltered theatrical version" and we started watching ANH and we got to the Han/Greedo scene and she gasped because (as we all know) its not a matter of Han shooting first, its that Han shoots and Greedo doesn't shoot at all.

She finally acknowledged that the SEs are more than just graphical touch ups. I look forward to her seeing the other originals over the rest of the weekend

Can't you whiners go to another SW thread and complain about the special editions? This thread is about episode VII.
