Now I'm sure there's some people that either PREFER the new versions or don't mind enough that they wouldn't rebuy the movies again. Although even then, if they were properly restored they would be in superior quality to the outdated masters used for the current Blu-Ray, so that would probably be extra incentive to a lot of people.

My point though was the suggestion that the UOT would be a minor-blip release for only a small group of very hardcore fans is totally off. This would be HUGE news from every media outlet. Star Wars fans and just general film enthusiasts would be all over it.
A lot of people don't care whether their edition of Hamlet is one of the three (very) different versions or a conflated edition made by some scholar, with Star Wars, like it or not, it's the same.
But that said: there are also a lot of people who buy the Arden editions of Shakespeare who instead care very much about it, I think there would be also a lot of people who'd prefer a 4k mastered blu ray even without the added special effects.

You guys complaining about the lack of the original versions makes me glad that I have a HD Master of Star Wars - ANH Revisited.

Yeah, I heard that was pretty great. I know he's supposedly working on new HD versions of the other two as well.

If for some reason Disney doesn't end up releasing the UOT by the time he finishes all three I'll definitely be getting them. Although I have to wonder if he's still dedicated to the project considering the likely possibility that Disney IS restoring the films.

**** that Revisited shit. If I want to watch a fanboy ruin Star Wars I've got the Special Editions. Despecialised is where it's at, although even the non-anamorphic DVDs get a runout from time to time.

The despecialized versions of the OT are fantastic.

I was actually okay with Georgie changing things. I mean, whatever. I would have left the movies as they were, but when he added the "nooooo" to the end of Jedi... Nope. No. No.

That scene literally made my decision not to but the blu-Ray.

I don't know if we should take this as a sign of anything, but I'd say it's intriguing to say the least.

I don't mind the DVD edition of Jedi but the Blu-ray blows, the latest changes are just too much. The line must be drawn here, no furthah!

Jedi's changes are all so bad. At least with the first two it's kind of half good and half bad. Jedi is all bad.

I don't mind Jedi's alterations up to and including the 2004 DVD, but the Blu-ray goes too far. Thankfully Lucas didn't add too many extra extra changes to the Blu-ray of Empire (just a few touch-ups here and there), and although the Blu-ray of Star Wars had those STOOPID rocks added in front of Artoo plus the diabolical new 'scream' from Ben Kenobi, the newly remixed audio goes a long way.

Well it's my hope that there are special numbers on the back of the pins, and when the entire set is collected they can be scanned at certain booths during the celebration. Once the set is complete a ticket will print out that will be used to enter one of the halls where a sneak peek of the UOT blu will be shown.

At least Luke no longer screams like the Emperor after heroically leaping down the shaft in Cloud City.

That wasn't changed for the Blu-ray though, was it? IIRC they rectified that on the 2004 DVD.

Default George Lucas on the Special Editions.

"There will only be one [version of the films]. And it won't be what I would call the "rough cut", it'll be the "final cut". The other one will be some sort of interesting artifact that people will look at and say, "There was an earlier draft of this." The same thing happens with plays and earlier drafts of books. In essence, films never get finished, they get abandoned. At some point, you're dragged off the picture kicking and screaming while somebody says, "Okay, it's done." That isn't really the way it should work. Occasionally, [you can] go back and get your cut of the video out there, which I did on both American Graffiti and THX 1138; that's the place where it will live forever. So what ends up being important in my mind is what the DVD version is going to look like, because that's what everybody is going to remember. The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won't last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you'll be able to project it on a 20-foot-by-40-foot screen with perfect quality. I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's, to go back and reinvent a movie.

Yes, they did. I still remember the feeling of relief when I found out that scream had been taken out for the DVD edition.

You know, unlike many of the Blu-ray changes that were just dumb, the DVD ones were mostly good. The removal of Luke's scream, the improved Jabba in ANH, Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine in TESB, etc.

There will be "fans" on their death beds who will think "why did I spend so much time moaning about a few changes to a movie?"

It's really pathetic and personally, as much as I'm looking forward to EpVIII I'm pretty much "star warsed" out. I wouldn't bother with buying another version of the OT. I rarely watch the existing blu-ray as it is

Lol @ "a few changes". Next time someone slams into my car and destroys my door, I'll just tell him to forget about it, its just a fender bender. SEOT apologists are THEE worst.
