Love the cinematic echoes of the past shown. Abrams appears to know what he is doing.

I don't think it's safe to assume Finn becomes a Jedi.....it's all trickery, Rey is the Jedi

Thanks for reminding me. I need to put in a request for the 17th and 18th off. Might as well get an early start to X-Mas break.

Is there a list available that breaks down what each IMAX location is?

I just checked the listings for the BFI IMAX, they're all in 3D so if it's not laser (they don't have it yet) and it's not 15/70 (which is apparently 2D only) then it'll be bloody 2K digital. On "the biggest screen in Britain". £20 for that, they can go **** themselves. Gonna have to check out the Empire IMAX, I think. It may be 3D and a smaller screen but at least it'll be the laser projection.

If you click on the yellow triangle there is a blog post on how to do it, choose the method you like (in my case the plug-in that makes apple believe Firefox is an iPhone 3.0) and you are good to go.

Ok, so this guy really isn't in touch with what's going on. This is an excerpt from this mornings Huffington post article about the online ticket sites crashing:

"The film is expected to gross about $100 million in North America on its opening weekend, Rentrak's senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said"

Where did this guy get his info? If Avengers and Jurassic World did 200mil, then this is going to destroy that record. Potentially 300-400mil if there are enough screens domestically. And probably hit 500 mil over the first full week and 1bil easily

There's too much shit in Abrams frame. It's way too busy compared to the shot in Empire. But this is typical of action filmmakers today and Abrams especially. They think busy = good.

http://www.imax.com/community/blog/s...s-on-sale-now/

This link includes a list of the laser and 15/70 locations. Not 100% final (word is the National Air & Space museum in DC will play 15/70, and IMAX previously said 15 laser locations by the end of the year but I count 14), but fair to assume if you are looking for a theater not on this list they will be playing it digital.

I just hope there's some "fun" in the new movie. The trailers show that JJ is able to capture the weight and the darkness… but even at their darkest, the original films were "fun".

No film has even made $100 million in December. This will surely hit around $150 million, but any more is a pipe dream most likely. It will be lucky to make $500 million from the 17th to the 31st, let alone in a week.

I dunno about "destroy", the December holiday has never been a great time for a truly stellar opening weekend in the US (Hobbit: AUJ leads the way on $84M). I think this may top $150M and may even get close to that $200M mark but $300/400M domestic? No way Jose.

Abrams' films have always had that fun factor somewhere in them. The guy just doesn't do dark and dour, he wants to make blockbuster entertainments that are fun to watch and I'm positive that Ep VII will be no different.

[edit] Even though it's damned cool that they're doing 15/70 at all (and this may well be the last, unless BvS can wrangle a few more prints out of them) it's a damned shame the premier 15/70 location in the entire UK (BFI IMAX) isn't on there. It hasn't got laser yet, it won't apparently get a 15/70 print, so we'll have to make do with a 2K projection? **** that noise, jack.
Maybe, because of the linited 15/70 prints, maybe those will go to other IMAX's after their initial runs. I can remember the first Satr Wars exclusive showing at Dallas's Northpark theater. No major films now have that kind of esclusive run, except maybe a week or two in the beginninng...

I would certainly check out laser over digital if that's an option. You will probably get bigger image size even if the screen is smaller as well.

I believe all the laser installs so far are on screens at least 80 feet wide, whereas digital can only properly light sizes around 75 feet or so. That's how they do it at Lincoln Square, the used image size is roughly 75 feet wide, with 20+ feet of black bars on the sides.

I was surprised to see that Avatar "only" made 77 million it's opening weekend.

I know, I came to that same conclusion that they may get the 15/70 print later on. But I still wants to see it sooner rather than later so I gots to make a choice as to where to lay my IMAX hat.

Yep, IMAX laser @ the Empire it is, 3D be damned. Now I've just got to sort out accommodation in London!
