So I saw that Fright Night is coming out in Europe with a brand new 4K restoration. But I want 2K because it looks better and is more like the soft cinematic version you would have seen in theaters as opposed to cleaned up 4k restorations that have finer grain and loses that fuzzy hint of warmth in a 2k release.
So is that German version U.S. (english) friendly? Are there hard-coded subtitles or can I watch the actual feature without dubbing and subtitles in its original form? |

The advertisements about "brand new restorations" needs to stop. It's just pathetic and misleading at this point. I mean Arrow were touting their release of The Burning as a restoration when it was an almost decade old MGM DVD master.

The German version that I imported a few years ago is english friendly. The disc detects the settings on your blu-ray player and will default to english menus. No default subtitles and it starts with the english audio. Only downside is no HD audio or extras.

Well, the review up on DVDBeaver mentions this new version as Region Free.
I'm not saying you're wrong, just pointing out what they're saying... Maybe the steelbook is region-locked but the regular version isn't? Not sure why that would even need to happen, but putting it out there all the same. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...ht_blu-ray.htm |

I believe they said it would be locked but the disc ended up not. Could have been a glitch like Arrow's Deep Red release, which would mean once the standard edition hits the market it will be locked. Who knows though.
I'm region-free so I have it pre-ordered either way. If it's region-free I will probably sell the Twilight Time. |

Reviews seem to agree that the Eureka disc is the best looking since it has a high bitrate. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...ht_blu-ray.htm |

One thing I know for sure is that the Eureka release has the darker gamma just like the first Twilight Time release from 2011. So this would confirm that the 2015 30th Anniversary Special Edition from Twilight Time is the one that has the "wrong gamma" as I trust David Mackenzie's encoding. |
