That's a copy/paste from the official Eureka PR release.

When something is released for the first time in a country they often act like it's a "brand new restoration" or whatnot, even thought Twilight Time released it years ago.

So I saw that Fright Night is coming out in Europe with a brand new 4K restoration. But I want 2K because it looks better and is more like the soft cinematic version you would have seen in theaters as opposed to cleaned up 4k restorations that have finer grain and loses that fuzzy hint of warmth in a 2k release.

So is that German version U.S. (english) friendly? Are there hard-coded subtitles or can I watch the actual feature without dubbing and subtitles in its original form?

Whether you buy the original Twilight Time BD, the Twilight Time reissue, the international BD (not just a German release) or the forthcoming UK release from Eureka they are all based on the same 4K scan. If you're looking for fuzzy, go get the DVD.

The advertisements about "brand new restorations" needs to stop. It's just pathetic and misleading at this point. I mean Arrow were touting their release of The Burning as a restoration when it was an almost decade old MGM DVD master.

The German version that I imported a few years ago is english friendly. The disc detects the settings on your blu-ray player and will default to english menus. No default subtitles and it starts with the english audio. Only downside is no HD audio or extras.

I know the discussions you are referencing but it doesn't apply to 4k remasters on BD, only UHD. The debate is whether UHD makes the grain much more apparent than it was in theaters and therefore should be. However the compression and down-sampling to normal BD removes this possible issue. 4k remasters on BD, like Fright Night, look great.

If it's region free I'll certainly buy it.

It was already confirmed that it was region locked.

Well, the review up on DVDBeaver mentions this new version as Region Free.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just pointing out what they're saying...

Maybe the steelbook is region-locked but the regular version isn't? Not sure why that would even need to happen, but putting it out there all the same.

I could be wrong, but I read somewhere that there was some interview or something where they said that it would be region locked. And I agree region locking the steelbook and not the regular edition wouldn't make much sense.

I believe they said it would be locked but the disc ended up not. Could have been a glitch like Arrow's Deep Red release, which would mean once the standard edition hits the market it will be locked. Who knows though.

I'm region-free so I have it pre-ordered either way. If it's region-free I will probably sell the Twilight Time.

The blu-ray disc for Zavvi's Fright Night steelbook is indeed not Region B locked.

Worked on my PS4 just fine. Could be just Region A+B though.

So anyone pick up the Eureka disc and compare it with the TT release? Does it blow it away since it's a 4k scan

Both TT releases were also from a 4K scan.

I believe both the Twilight Time and Eureka discs are from the same 4K scan, with the re-release Twilight Time disc having a minor shift in brightness.

Reviews seem to agree that the Eureka disc is the best looking since it has a high bitrate.

They will probably show up on caps-a-holic soon. I'm gonna have at least one frame comparison in the next 24 hours, stay tuned.

One thing I know for sure is that the Eureka release has the darker gamma just like the first Twilight Time release from 2011. So this would confirm that the 2015 30th Anniversary Special Edition from Twilight Time is the one that has the "wrong gamma" as I trust David Mackenzie's encoding.

To me, the Eureka looks ever so slightly warmer than the original TT. Very minor. The difference is gamma is definitely noticeable between the second TT release and the Eureka

Thanks for taking the time to post those!
