Gold? Seriously? I'd probably be cool with gold, but I don't see even the most remote resemblance to gold. Now I'm interested in what other colors you see there. And please don't take this as me having a go at you. I just genuinely don't see even a hint of gold. As I said before, to me it looks like a cheap B&W photocopy.

But I do like the grey border as a contrast to the rest of the cover.

I actually see a dark bronze/brownish color, not grey. We're all looking at it on different monitors, though, so that could be the reason for the different perceptions of it.

This is mostly why I'm concerned. I'm wondering if I need to adjust the color profile of my computer.

December 30th, 1984 I was a freshman in high school and my father rented a VCR for the first time. Our first night of home video featured "An American Werewolf in London", "The Dead Zone", "Dawn of the Dead" and "Pieces". Seemed somewhat apropos to celebrate 30 years of (home) movie watching with ordering one of my favorites (which I missed in the theaters, but caught on video shortly after it was released).

Now, off to continue my 30th celebrations with "Dawn of the Dead"!

Yeah, it's always looked gold with the reflective element not scanning well or bronze to me.

Well, I'd like bronze or gold much better than B&W photocopy.

It looks like a dark brownish gray to me. I just really wish they didn't put the border on there at all.... It looks so much better without it.

That would look nice. Where can I get black cases (and maybe other colors too)?

I ended up ordering Fright Night and Christine from Amazon.de for like $24 shipped, but I said screw it and ordered this also. May or may not end up keeping it.

Have you calibrated your monitor?

Looking at the HSL and RGB values for the image the border uses shades of gray, on the warm side, which have low hue and saturation values (red/yellow side of the spectrum). May explain why some see the border as a goldish or brownish color.

I forgot about this. I have the original release, so I'm not sure if I'll grab it if it's not a new transfer. I hope I don't regret my decision.

I haven't. I've been using the iMac preset profile. I've tried the other presets: Adobe RGB (1998), Generic RGB Profile, and sRGB IEC61966-2.1. They all appear the same grayish color, though slightly different shades of it. I know I should go through the calibration process, but I've been being lazy about it.

haha. i'm in the same boat man. Both my parents worked when I was a kid so I spent most of my days at home watching movies or out exploring on my bmx bike. Luckily for me, my dad was a technician, electronics repairman so we always had a couple of vcr's in the house. I watched classic Dawn of the Dead when I was 6 or 7 years old back in '84/'85.

I still remember that day I scraped together enough change to rent a movie (only costed 99 cents back then to rent), skipped the whole day of elementary school, walked 45 minutes to the closest 7-11 (yes, they had VHS rentals back then) and rented a copy of Dawn of the Dead (they were less strict back then with renting out mature rated horror flicks to kids lol). I still remember it was Zombie Roger's face on the cover of that vhs case. Needless to say, I was pretty blown away by Dawn of the Dead, especially at that age. =D

Then shortly after I watched Fright Night, Empire Strikes Back, Day of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Night of the Living Dead. And then Aliens the next year. All on home video rentals though as I didn't get a chance to go the theatres much. My first theatre experience was probably Tom Hanks' Big. Which was a pretty awesome experience. They really don't make movies like that anymore.

Ironically, in celebration of me getting the Fright Night Blu ray yesterday, I also instinctively popped in my classic Dawn of the Dead blu ray to watch. lol.. if only someone would release the extended cut of Dawn with HD audio. Preferably in a nice boxset like the ultimate dvd box set. =D

On a side note, maybe it's just nostalgia on my part, but movie posters seem so much more cooler back then. I really love the original Fright Night poster. Posters back then seem to evoke a lot of imagination in the viewer. But nowadays a lot of posters just show the faces of some of the main actors and that's it.

Does anyone remember if the original theatrical Fright Night poster looked more similar to the TT blu ray cover with the white lettering? Or did it have the red lettering?

Thanks for the input! I'm really really glad it comes with a 2.0 track. Makes the collection much more complete. Is the 2.0 track also in High res HD audio?

Was also curious, since this 30th anniversary Fright Night is on a 50GB disc. Would there be a higher bitrate for the video and audio compared to the last disc? Just hoping that that extra storage space would give us slightly better quality even though the transfer is the same.

Is there also gonna be any collector's booklet with essays that will come with this new release?

Thanks again!

If I remember correctly, Fright Night originally had more of a white lettering. I think Fright Night Part 2 had red lettering.
