I wish people would not be so willing to purchase these limited editions at ridiculous prices.. Stop doing it and they will release 10,000 at $19.99. Fun little movie but I think I would prefer to purchase 4 blu's for what they are asking for one. Boutique prices just for bragging rights does not make good sense.

That comment got me curious, so today I read some postings by scalpers about why they think scalping is okay. I found their arguments very interesting, and after reading them, I think I might sort of agree with them that it isn't a bad thing (though I'm still on the fence).
It's one thing to get back more than you paid for something -- in our disposable society, that's rare. But to snag up 30 copies just to jack up the price by 500% is a pretty dick thing to do. And sadly, it's become increasingly commonplace. The second amazon goes out of stock on a $5 movie, a scalper lists a used copy at $99 and all of the other resellers on the net and in resale shops follow suit. And anytime there's a limited edition like this (or the bazillions of Intrada special-release soundtracks), slow and initially-oblivious fans can forget about paying an affordable price for a copy.

As long as there's people willing to pay, there will always be scalpers. I'm not one of those people........I look for the lowest possible price for anything I purchase online and there's a limit of how much I'd actually pay.

If you purchased two, one for watching and one for 'collecting' I'd have no issues with that. As mentioned before, SAE should have done a better job with that in the beginning.

If nobody bought the first release, this second release wouldn't exist and Sony would determine that there's no market for Fright Night on Blu-ray at all.

Which brings up a reasonable point... Fright Night has now sold over 8000 copies in less then 2 weeks time to only a very small segment of the Blu Ray purchasing market if you combine sales from both releases Twilight Time have done. Maybe Sony will finally take notice and consider mainstream releases of these genre titles as something still worth pursuing.

welcome to the world of limited edition items... it's been going on for DECADES. just not usually in the movie business, which is why it's so "shocking" to people here. don't like scalping, well then get rid of limited edition movies...end of story.

But yeah Best Buy stocks hardly anything anymore. If it isn't a huge hit movie or a new release that store is not worthwhile as much anymore. Sad really I liked browsing for titles years ago.
My Barnes and Noble is HUGE, but they never carry more than 3 or 4 blus. My Best Buy has a HUGE selection of blus.

To me it sounds like people are just trying to gain the maximum profit in a capitalist society. I live in a capitalist society, so I expect (and prepare for) this sort of thing. I think the majority of people who have an issue with it are those who ignored the following wise phrases while growing up:
You snooze you lose.
The early bird gets the worm.
Fortune favors the prepared.
By failing to prepare, you're preparing to fail.
Good luck is a residue of preparation.
There are many more.

I have a feeling once actual copies start arriving to people we'll see more showing up on eBay and at lower prices. Surely some ordered it just to sell given how fast the first sold out and the demand.

Hello everyone. Have been a lurker here since the tail end of the hd-dvd/Blu-ray war. I literally registered about 5 minutes before posting this. I wanted to first thank the members here for being a wealth of knowledge for me over the years.

it was because of this thread that I was able to secure my copy of Fright Night the other day. I had registered my email to be notified, but I never got any notifications. Luckily, didn't stop me from remembering to check out SAE to pre-order.

So again, want to give my thanks, as I don't think I would even know about this offering if it wasn't for this site and forum. Happy New Year to all
