That's probably it, when did they switch? It's certainly not a case of jamming older booklets into new packaging though, as even The Draughtsman's Contract has the smaller booklet.

The first release I can remember where they switched to the scanavo case was Judgement at Nuremberg, which was released early 2020. I always assumed they would catch up and change the booklet dimensions to the new cases but they appear to be sticking to the old size.

I’ve noticed this too and think it looks cheap to have a booklet that’s too small for the case.

Not safe to assume with bfi. Their record on printed materials (layout/design, image selection, reprographics etc.) is the poorest of the major boutique labels IMO.

At least the booklets don't get torn in these cases. So, it's a step.

Most of the booklets in my order were damaged due to the bigger case, so that's not true at all.

Nor can it logically hold true that a booklet that’s too short to fit under the top clip properly is less likely to be damaged. Clearly the opposite.

Lucky for us it's only a booklet hidden away in a case and we're grown ups that can take crumpled booklet corners on the chin.

Yes, it's hardly the end of the world. Still a baffling decision though. Thanks for chipping in.

Speak for yourself; my Ghost Stories for Christmas v1 booklet arrived flapping about loose in the case yesterday with a crumpled corner, and now I'm forming a support group to get me through this.

Didn't know that the BFI home video division was a charity organization sending customers gift horses they shouldn't look in the mouth.

I can understand not being obsessive about accidental creases, but when they've had a major design change in their case, it is but a normal expectation that they should modify the booklet dimensions to better fit the new case design and minimize the chances of creases and possibly tears. Not doing this is laziness and apathy on their part and paying customers are only right to point this out.

Anyone with any advice how to buy the Sight & Sound magazine with the film poll please. Ive been checking the link via BFI to buy and its been sold out for over a week. They had a message that they hoped to get stock soon, but that message has vanished.
Anyone seen any in the shops? Ive only seen the other most recent edition with Korean cinema on the front.

I purchased a copy from the shop in BFI Southbank a few weeks ago, so I'm a bit surprised to learn it doesn't seem to be in regular shops yet. I've purchased Sight & Sound in WH Smiths before, so if you still have a local one it may be worth checking in there.

I noticed a tweet the other week from someone at S&S saying it was sold out online and would be available again on Friday 2nd, so kept going into Smiths that weekend to see if it was in stock yet.

I noticed later on that they clarified that Wednesday 7th was the actual street date, so I went to Smiths that day and grabbed a copy immediately. There were 4 copies on the shelf, but they didn't have the 2001 cover (my favourite film, so I had to get Vertigo instead). The other three copies were the Jeanne Dielman (x2) and Citizen Kane (x1) covers. I've not been back since so I imagine it's sold out in my local store now, but worth checking other Smiths (and other specialist newsagents...I did try a small newsagents but they didn't even have Empire/Total Film etc).

I'm guessing the postal strikes might be the reason for that.

Very true, although I'm not entirely sure its included in a subscription being a "special". Will have to check.

It's the "winter" issue so it should be included in the sub.

Mine hasn't turned up either.
