Unacceptable. If so, I'm gonna order the Criterion next week.

The BFI release will have more extras than the Criterion if you do hold out, by the way.

I've got no problem waiting if so, especially with the package that they seem to be putting together. There's been so much released recently and upcoming that I haven't even had time to watch all of what I've bought yet, let alone what I haven't, haha! This would jump quite high in the pile though. I can only think they're holding on for better materials for some of the extras as surely they'll be using the same master that Criterion used for Eyes.

BFI and everywhere else is still saying Nov but Amazon are usually pretty reliable with release date changes.

Yeah they're generally ahead of the game with date changes. 99 times out of 100 they're correct...just a shame we have to wait an extra 4 months!

So far...
January 2014 - announcement for July 2014 release
July 2014 - rescheduled for September 2014 release
September 2014 - rescheduled for November 2014 release
November 2014 - reschedule for March 2015 release

That's actually 8 months on top of their original release date! Hope the wait is worth it

Another arbitrary 'pin the tail on the donkey' date from the BFI, who are slightly less communicative than a trappist monk on matters such as this.

Two two-month delays, and now double that. You think they'd at least give us a January release date first, but perhaps they're realising that might be a bit generous. I have no idea what the hold-up is this time as last time they implied it was the shorts they wanted to add...my guess is they're having to restore the shorts properly and want to put them on blu-ray in HD rather than the usual SD-on-DVD that they usually do? Basically it seems like they want to trump the Criterion release...I just wish they would be more in-touch with their audience like Eureka and Arrow are so good at doing. It wouldn't take much, and would restore faith rather than just increase frustration!

I'm still definitely buying it, it's just a matter of when! 14 months of waiting deserves at least a brief sentence in our direction...I've given up on Artificial Eye but sometimes the BFI do respond to probing. I've asked them via Twitter, but no response. If more people try asking them we might get a response?

Great deal on BFIs at Rakuten at this store http://www.rakuten.co.uk/shop/youwan...b_product_shop

Titles like Late Autumn, Gaslight, That Sinking Feeling, Alice, Early Summer, L'Age Do'r, Cria Cuervos and Classe Tous Risques all for just over a fiver each using the code SPEND10. Worth having a search, I ordered five via different accounts

I ordered Cria Cuervos, Gaslight and Late Autumn at the weekend and they were dispatched today! Should receive them soon...might get a couple more. Classe Tous Risques is rarely at a low price so I'd recommend that one in particular!

I ordered them last month for 20 quid, which I think is a damn good price for a 6-DVD set.

Few bargains to be had that are only valid today it seems, as it's Black Friday...

ZAVVI - Use a 10% off code (sent to most email addresses in the last few weeks), or open new account and use code WELCOME for 10% off

Alain Robbe-Grillet - Six Film Collection - £30.99
Werner Herzog Collection - £39.99

MOVIEMAIL - 10% off with code MMBLACKFRI14 (off everything, by the way, but only for today)

Institute Benjamenta - £7.19 (was £7.99)
Separation - £7.19 (was £7.99)
Les Vacances des M. Hulot - £8.99 (was £9.99)

There are probably more if you look around

Any idea what the differences are between the two versions? (this one and this one)

I take it they mean the dual format copy, but there is a 'Strictly Limited' version on Amazon. I'm guessing they are the exact same

There is no dual format copy, that is an erroneous listing (hence why it isn't available). It is the strictly limited copy that is about to disappear (to be replaced by a DVD only copy).

Dreyer box set & Rashomon coming Spring. Source
Quote:
Spring 2015 sees the BFI continue to bring World Cinema classics to Blu-ray for the first time with the release of Kurosawa’s great enigmatic masterpiece Rashomon (1950) and a box-set of four Carl Theodor Dreyer films: the richly detailed tragicomedy of domestic manners, Master of the House (1925); Day of Wrath (1943), a dark and powerful tale of love and betrayal, and a community gripped by an obsessive fear of witchcraft; Ordet (1955), exploring the religious intolerance and familial tensions within a Danish farming family; and Gertrud (1964) about a woman who rejects the compromise of her marriage, suffers disappointment in her younger lover and retreats into a serene isolation. The set will also contain a selection of Dreyer shorts in HD.

Brilliant news! Dreyer has been my most wanted BFI upgrade for years* so the announcement is like an early Christmas present.

*Along with Terence Davies and the vanishingly unlikely Naruse.

Not interested in Master of The House, but those other films are Wonder if Criterion will be releasing some of them in the American market?

Also, would love any news of an HD release for Vampyr - waiting for Eureka to make an announcement so I have an excuse to spring for their release with the Del Toro commentary

Holy crap!

Rashomon. One of the best films of all time.

Dreyer. One of the best visionaries of all time.

BFI, along with MoC and Arrow, are set to bankrupt me in the new year? If Artificial Eye get their act together (Tarkovsky), that much is certain.

EDIT: just saw in that press release the mention of a Welles season. If BFI had any sense they would restore one or two of his films and release them late 2015/early 2016, right? At least one of his films would be nice. Like when we got Tess after the Polanski season.

EDIT: I am so excited for Rashomon. Please don't fudge it, BFI! I just got their Kurosawa Samurai Collection on blu-ray, nice set but I haven't watched any of them yet. I got it for a bargain - sold off my copy of Seven Samurai (the steelbook sells for profit on eBay, seems it's OOP) and got the set for £30. Worth it for the better transfers I'm sure.
