I thought the flipside series was being resurrected before the end of the year? Still haven't heard anything.

Next year apparently. I guess we might hear something soon if it's happening in the first quarter.

It's not Fandor, but it's still a pretty interesting collection of films. Almost 20 Kurosawa, most of (not all?) their Flipside releases, collections of Herzog, Cassavetes, Powell and Pressburger, Lean, Naruse and early Hitchcock, along with other odds and sods like a Mieville/Godard doc, Scorsese's PERSONAL JOURNEY, NIGHT HAWKS, the Billy Wilder EMIL AND THE DETECTIVES, GODZILLA and THE MYSTERIANS, etc.
I just spent the past hour researching the films on there, and these are the ones I'm interested in:

  • Dead Ringers
  • The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog
  • The Day the Earth Caught Fire
  • Silence
  • Decasia
  • Laboured Party
  • Herostratus
  • Two in the Wave
  • The Draughtsman’s Contract
  • The Company of Wolves
  • Chronicle of a Summer
  • Orphee

BFI Flipside
  • Little Malcolm
  • Deep End/Starting Out: The Making of Deep End
  • The Black Panther
  • Radio On

BFI Flare
  • Children/Madonna and Child/Death and Transfiguration
  • Derek Jarman: Life as Art
  • B.D. Women

Free first month trial too - but I have rather a few Blu-Rays to watch so might wait a few months until I've cleared through most of the pile. Seems to be updated daily too.

One thing to look out for is that not all films are free with this service. Some cost £4.50 to rent. Check the FAQ for more info. Use the free trial to research which films you really want to watch and see if any cost the extra fee.

Amazon is listing BFI's Black Girl as Dual Format but also specifically as a "DVD" -- is there any reason to be concerned about placing an order?

Mine should finally be arriving today (or tomorrow...it's with Amazon Logistics), but I ordered this edition:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Borom-.../dp/B0133E8EGQ

Seems to be back in stock after 2 weeks of complaining to them about never dispatching my copy!

The other one seems to be DVD only...I think. Or an incorrect listing. I haven't seen a DVD-only edition of it in person, only the Dual Format edition (in Fopp last weekend).

Are you using a 10% code or have the prices already risen up?

It is region B locked to Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Saying its "Geo-locked to the UK" is misleading.

??? If you go into the Terms and Conditions of the streaming site, it says it is only available to people within the UK.

Perhaps you misread, and thought I was talking about a region B-coded disc?

Sorry, maybe my question was a little misleading but when I click on the link of e.g. the Herzog set it says £41.99 instead of £37.79 so I was wondering if there's an active voucher since that's exactly a 10% difference.

No, it was a valid question The prices have gone up - they seem to do that a lot at Zavvi. When I ordered the Rossellini set a few weeks back it dropped a couple of quid an hour later then rose by four pounds later in the day!

nitin doesn't live in the UK so the prices are lower.
