The original poster on the Bfi DVD is one of my favourite so I have to say this is a disappointment as cover art.

I did like Christopher Frayling's featurette though.

No, but if you want the James Bernard score then yes.

Yeah I have the DVD too. Perhaps they wanted a new cover considering it'll be in HD...I think this is one of the more successful BFI covers of late.

Salo and The Trilogy of Life were early BDs for the BFI, and it clearly shows.
Medea is indeed quite good looking, and I always found Theorema to be pretty much OK too, but the other 4 have lots of room for improvement.

Theorem is a top tier transfer and looks astounding. It's easily the best looking Pasolini available. Medea is fine but nothing special. Salo and The Trilogy of Life can be forgotten about completely in light of the Criterions.

BFI Salo does have very good special features that make the disc worth owning though.

Yep, the Whoever Tells the Truth Shall Die documentary makes it essential.

The Preminger box set is now £26.99 at Zavvi:

http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/otto-pr.../11159378.html

Does anyone have a working 5% or 10% Zavvi discount code? I cannot get the ZVC5 code to work. Norwegian exchange rates are bonkers at the moment, and I need to get the value of the item down by about £1 before ordering it to avoid customs charges.

Up to £37.99. Makes it easier to pass up which is probably just fine considering how awful my experiences have been with Zavvi.

An interview with head of BFI's DVD department Sam Dunn was broadcast on BBC radio today, as reported on Roobarb's.

The tantalising part:

Quote:
At the start of the programme, he mentions he's just had a meeting with someone who they've commissioned to make a documentary on "a big British filmmaker who we're doing a huge boxset of next year", but declines to go into any further details.
You can listen to the original interview here, which begins at 2:08:00.

Very interesting. Who could it be? Surely not more Ken Russell? I'd be happy with some more Peter Watkins, but much of his key stuff has already been released...

My wish-list would be Nic Roeg, Michael Powell, John Schlesinger, David Lean, Alex Cox, Mike Leigh...but I doubt they would be able to get many of their films, many of which have already been released, let alone enough for a box set. I wonder who it could may well be...

Once again, I'm hoping it's Alan Clarke.

Clarke would be interesting, but not sure they'd do a 'big box set' for him. Probably something more in line with the recently announced Russell releases. I could be wrong, of course...we'll just have to wait and see.

Could be Ken Loach. He'll be 80 next year, a huge catalogue and the BFI have so much archive material on him.

Nic Roeg would be amazing. But not likely I reckon.
