If anyone else hasn't checked yet, it looks as if the new announcements will all be bunched together. Of course, the dates might change between then and now but it seems this is the schedule:

Farewell My Concubine, Underground, Love on the Dole - JANUARY 18TH
Valentino, Ken Russell Collection: The Great Passions, Ken Russell Collection: The Great Composers - FEBRUARY 22ND
Bande à part, Culloden + The War Game, Shooting Stars - MARCH 21ST

Great start to the year! As I've said already, I've pre-ordered four of those and look forward to getting hold of them.

I wonder if this means that the BFI don't have home video rights to the new Women in Love restoration then? It would be strange if they did but didn't release it in February with the other Ken Russell films.

For me, all bar the Preminger set which has shot up to over 34 GBP, are still showing at those prices.

But yeah I'm outside of the UK so not sure if that makes a difference.

Nah, it seems some of them still are - Underground and Valentino. Also The Wages of Fear, but that's not out 'til next October now.

I was just going by the article, but you're right! Oh well, I was going to buy Underground and Valentino anyway

Underground should be a blind buy for anyone who has not heard of it - it's basically an extremely rewatchable masterpiece for anyone that likes entertaining films. It's like asking "should I blind buy the Godfather?" Buy this film and hope for more Kusturica on blu.

Amazing slate of releases. Pre-ordered the Russell sets, Valentino and War Game/Culloden. Will almost certainly get Underground and Band a Part too.

I'd recently found War Game and Culloden on YouTube and was going to give them a watch due to hearing Ben Wheatley and Alex Cox talking about them in a recent podcast. Glad I held off, will watch them in style in 2016!

Just thought I'd point out that The Wages of Fear (Limited Dual Format Edition) has dropped to £10.99. I know it's not due 'til a year's time now but might be worth locking it in at this price if you hadn't yet done so! If Eyes Without A Face is anything to go by, it's definitely worth waiting that long to see a film like this given the justice it deserves.

Question is, if I preorder it which I genuinely would like to at that price, what can I wait a year to see with it to get free shipping?

I'll probably test it with another pre. They've shipped out other items when the release date for one has changed after I ordered but not had experience of stuff that's genuinely already months apart.

Murder in the Cathedral has also dropped to £10.99 on Amazon. I thought it best to whack in an order at that price.

You could order it with something that's indefinitely delayed but you might still want if it suddenly gets set a date (e.g. Peter Weir's Witness, AE's listings for Lift to the Scaffold or Au Hasard Balthazar). Then when The Wages of Fear finally gets dispatched, you can cancel the other item in your order (I've tried it...it works). Or of course you could order anything you want right now that's £9.01 or more (either already in-stock or a pre-order).

Also, thought I'd point out the artwork for Farewell My Concubine has been altered slightly - for the better, in my opinion. Looks a little less washed-out (with a bit more colour to it and a stronger composition).

I just read Svet's review of Eyes without a Face and was wondering if it was the same cut as the Criterion disc or if it was the slightly shorter cut present on the Gaumont disc ?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's the same as Criterions.

What was it that's missing from the Gaumont?
If you can provide a rough time stamp I'll check my BFI disc to confirm.

Love it:

Shame they couldn't do something similar for Vivre sa vie, but oh well! Just glad to see the BFI doing these films the right way.

1 short sequence, for a total of about 40-50 sec (IIRC)

It's a shot just after the chirurgy sequence and the shot where Alida Valli tells Brasseur that Christiane has well eaten. The sequence was a discussion between Blavette and Brasseur, who look at all the dogs' cages.

Nothing that hampers the appreciation of the movie, but still.

I've checked the runtime of the Criterion and the BFI, but unfortunately, since I don't know if the BFI copy opens with a specific logo or not, I don't know how to compare them. If there is no specific opening logo, then, it should have the same cut than the Criterion (the Criterion is 1:30:27.675, including their 20 sec opening logos, the BFI is 1:30:04.041).

BFI's opening logo is only about 8-9 seconds and it's the Gaumont logo. No others. Criterion has their own, Janus & Gaumonts.

Anyway the scene is on the BFI disc as well. I also checked my Criterion disc as well to make sure.

I looked for BFI Nosferatu on Amazon UK. It looks like an HD version of their old DVD with its own unique extras I cant imagine they'd have a new HD version of the version shown on Channel 4 back in 2001 so is it worth buying if you have the Eureka BD?
I did like Christopher Frayling's featurette though.
