Cohen don't have any rights to Vampyr in actuality, they inherited that claim when they bought the Rohauer Collection but that collection was mainly prints/elements of varying quality that Rohauer sometimes literally put his name on in order to claim copyright. Dreyer left Vampyr to the Danish Film Institute in his will, and that's who Criterion and MoC licensed it from.

Rohauer's greatest of so many scams was when he attempted to copyright academy leader - the countdown at the start of every reel of film. Had he succeeded, he could, and would, have sued the studios and producers of almost every film made from 1931 up to the mid-60s for violation of 'his' copyright.

Curious about BFI licensing from Cohen and Universal; in regards to the former, could we see BFI step in and upgrade Vampyr since MoC seem to be stalling on it? Another obvious one would be Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (again, assuming Eureka didn't grab it first), Les Parents Terribles, La Belle Noiseuse, Sudden Fear etc (maybe the two Sirk titles, or more Merchant-Ivory).

The sequel came out 2 years ago.

I asked and Tongues Untied is officially cancelled Don’t know of any ways to legally stream it and the DVD seems long gone, so will need to seek out a rip most likely

I wonder if the DEMENTIA disc will also include the "sound" version (DAUGHTER OF HORROR, narrated by Ed "Here's Johnny!" McMahon)?

Darn, 6.99! Didn't really know that the mag was around. Rarely visit BFI's website honestly. Was able to get the order down with 10% by using the newsletter code though.

That's strange. Maybe they decided to send the magazine in an envelope and ship Tokyo Story in a cardboard mailer. Haven't bought S&S online before though, usually get them at the newsstand, so I don't really know how they ship them.
Well the magazine just arrived...but I'm afraid a tad battered, as it was inside a foil (kind of) sealed package. It could be worse I guess, though my girlfriend receives her monthly Taschen magazine, the exact same way, intact .

Ah mate, that's most unfortunate A local film magazine ships it in an A4 envelope with a piece of cardboard slightly bigger than the magazine surrounding it. Anyways, enjoy it all the same though! Looking forward to mine, hasn't been shipped yet I think. Got Tokyo Story though.

I hope a potential future Play For Today volume will include Love Letters On Blue Paper, written by Arnold Wesker and directed by Waris Hussein. I saw it last year at an event attended by Hussein at VideOdyssey in Liverpool (they also screened An Adventure In Space And Time with a live commentary by Hussein, as well as lots of clips from his other work during an extensive career-spanning interview). It was a very moving piece of work, with wonderful performances by Patrick Troughton and Elizabeth Spriggs. It was the first time Hussein had seen it since it aired in 1976, he said it was one of the works he was proudest of. It deserves a wider audience.

Lucky to receive mine in good shape. Any hint of future auteurs to be featured?

Safe bet would be Rohmer or Fellini, due to their centenaries taking place this year. Perhaps the latter is more likely, since the BFI had a decked out Fellini retrospective which was cancelled, I think? Would be wrong not to have a Fellini issue this year.

You would expect something sturdier for an overseas order, that's for sure. Was quite surprised, but anyway you can't have it all.
The issue is great btw!

That Play For Today set sounds exciting.

But I won't lie and say it gives me hope that a Mike Leigh Play For Today set or just all his TV productions get a Blu release!

Indeed, and I'm all for it! Does the magazine say anything about how many issues per year or anything?

Well, I played a bit of my BFI copy and I'm disappointed that the 2.0 track is actually a stereo down-mix of the 5.1 remix (I can't find any evidence that this was ever a four-track film and the 5.1 mix is barely a discrete mix) rather than the original mono track in a 2.0 container.

I'll be quite pleased if this one turns up and in decent condition. Never knew rarewaves had their own store until now.
