Is the commentary for Oscar Micheux's Body and Soul that's available on the Criterion Channel not included on the BFI set?

No. The BFI is essentially a port of the Kino discs.

Well yeah, that was pretty obvious, and I also asked in the Kino thread. Apparently there was a Criterion Paul Robeson DVD set, and that's where it came from.

No apparently about it. Here’s the Robeson set.

Does anyone know if the BFI Blu-Ray of Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast is playable on American players?

I guess I'll have to look for a region-free player, then.

Can anybody tell me if the "Running Jumping Standing Still" film on the Mr Topaze BFI blu-ray is:

1. actually HD
2. not the ropey old transfer that seems to turn up as a bonus everywhere else

1080p transfer, tinted colors. Not sure if it's a new scan or not, but definitely looks better than the transfer on the Criterion "A Hard Day's Night"

Hi,

This may have been answered already.

I was wondering - on the Dual Format Editions of the BFI - do all of them always come on a Blu-Ray case? Or do the DVD cases exist as well.

I'm thinking of ordering a movie but not sure it'll come on a Blu-ray case.

Thanks

Dual format editions come in a clear blu-ray case. They have never used DVD size cases for dual formats.

I have always loved this about the BFI releases. Nothing like a little consistency, right?

Network are the only one I can think of who used DVD (slimline) cases for dual format releases, something they quickly abandoned.

Their dual format release of Michael Palin & Terry Jones' show "The Complete and Utter History of Britain" was in an ordinary large DVD sized case, similar to how some of their complete TV series sets came.

Which luckily looks right at home next to the BFI releases of At Last The 1948 Show and Do Not Adjust Your Set.

Do we know anything from the other upcoming UHDs? I'd guess a 400 Blows UHD, since the new restoration premiered a few days ago, but what else is probable?

I think Stoddart said no to The 400 Blows as a UHD title on the Facebook group. I didn’t have any issues with the restoration but then I don’t have any older master to compare it against.

He has, which is a shame. I'm not entirely sure why - the criticisms of the French set seem to be mainly down the the encoding rather than the restorations, as far as I can see. I'll likely be passing on the BFI Truffaut releases then, as I'm feeling confident that Criterion will release them on UHD sooner rather than later. It is a shame that the BFI doesn't have the rights to any of the films that weren't in the Artificial Eye box sets.

Unfortunately due to production issues beyond our control, we've had to move back the release date of The Proposition on 4K UHD and Blu-ray to 28 March. We are very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience.
