Despite being at my local AL depot since the early hours of Sunday doesn’t look like it’s coming today. They usually have two vans to my area, one leaving around 11am other around 6pm but it’s still stuck at the depot.

Also fearful of the condition as heard else where that at least some copies came in the new cheapo Amazon paper bag packaging giving no protection so arrived damaged. Amazon are bonkers using this as even using on vinyl so people getting cracked discs.
They better not start doing that on a regular basis. Pay for prime and I’m not putting up with second rate packaging.

The thing with Amazon is they don't always use postal service so in theory they can bypass elaborate packaging if they have strict QC on how employees handle packages. Postal services dump packs into industrial dumper truck sized containers so that's how the rough and tumble happens. If an Amazon warehouse basically places a package onto a van without tossing it into a basket of other post, they could practically ship things in tissue for all it matters. It still needs protection of course for the distance between letterbox and doormat though. Protection from elements and squeezing through tight slots too.

18 months after release there's no telling. Most private ebay sellers don't mind checking, by weight if necessary, and are usually prompt with their replies.

Romeo is Bleeding with booklet approx. 116g, without 80g

When I don't got The 400 Blows on any Blu-ray, should I get the BFI release, or get the AE/Criterion master? The review here sounds not very promising. It's on sale at Rarewaves ...

Edit: Nevermind, I just ordered it. I got a £10 off discount from bonus points. Ordered The 400 Blows, Jules et Jim (double dip, got the US Criterion, but a very favorite and the master seems superior), La Peau Douce and Nineteen-Eighty Four. Thanks to justwannaboogie for the heads up in the deals thread

I didn’t have any issues with the BFI master, but it was my first time watching the film so I didn’t have anything to compare it to. Though Janus are now touring the new masters in the US, so we could see an English friendly UHD set on the horizon. I do want to get some of the other BFI Truffaut releases, but not The 400 Blows as I’ve already seen the new master as a DCP, and there’s not many new extras.

I think the new 4K restoration for 400 blows is vastly superior, not just "marginally better grain exposure and density levels" as the review says.

It has been hit with milky blacks, but if you have a panasonic player, you can use the Tone Curve (Black) function to try to improve the grading.

I have a region free Oppo UDP-203. From what I remember, only the Panasonic got the b/w tone curve controls.

But for the price, I try my luck. And if there's a superior release, I may double dip in the future.

When did Night and the City go OOP? It was around not that long ago, and now it's $100 on eBay. Blegh.

The US Criterion should still be in print. Unfortunately it isn't on the list of Criterion's Region B releases.

The BFI release is a 4K transfer like the French release whereas all the other BD releases of this film are not. The BFI release also has Truffaut's 1957 short film Les mistons ("The Mischief Makers") whereas the Criterion & Aetificial Eye releases don't.

Les Mistons is included on Artificial Eye's blu of Une belle fille comme moi (A Gorgeous Girl Like Me). Unsure if it ever made it on to any criterion disc.

I'm not region-locked, but I have the BFI noted down as the better of the two releases.

CeX has it for £12 plus £1.95 P&P so I could take a punt on it if ya like and if it's in good nick I could send it your way. Not sure of the postage cost to Aus though?

Way less than eBay wants for just the film, I'm guessing.

A quick Internet search seemed to indicate a Blu-ray could be shipped to Australia for around half that, although I'm not too familiar with UK postage systems. I PM'd UpsetSmiley, we'll see.
