Are there seasonal issues and monthly issues? I assumed it was quarterly but it seems to be monthly, which makes the seasonal names weird.

It's supposed to be monthly but it's been a bit irregular since 2020. UK monthlies have a general pattern of 13 issues at four-weekly intervals, one for each month and then "winter" or "summer" to fill the gap. S&S seem to be using seasonal ones at the moment to cover periods of two or three months to keep costs down.

I have the digital subscription, so I don't have physical arrivals to point to but I thought they did one for each season and then also one for each month, at least the way they're titled in the app.

It varies year to year. 2018 was the last time they put out 12 straight issues named after months. This year it was March, April, May, June, Summer, September, October, November, December, Winter. They actually come out a month before the month they're named after, Summer covered two months and Winter will presumably see us through to next Feb.

I've always heard that this is because they take a while to be available overseas (i.e. the USA) and US retailers don't want "old" magazines on their stands, e.g. the November issue in December, because that would confuse shoppers ("I want to buy the latest issue but you only seem to have last month's!").

Which is now getting ridiculous because for some magazines they're now two months ahead of the calendar, e.g. the latest issues of Mojo and Uncut are actually the "February 2023" issues.

I remember in November 1999 the professional computer mags were publishing their Jan 2000 issues and there wasn't a word about the outcome of the Y2K bug in any of them. Honestly

I was really surprised the S&Ss are selling for $15.20 at B&N these days… was there looking for a different magazine (no luck), so wasn't a wasted trip after all and made the wasted gas seem miniscule in comparison). But ouch that's nearly double the price in pounds (Ł6.50). I remember paying a whole lot less back when I used to buy them regularly. It's a modern world.

(Oh, and so I did just buy the November issue in December, I recall that being the norm.)

Tremendous news.

However, we've ended up with the first and last of the Andrzej Leszczyc trilogy and not the middle film, Walkover, nor Skolimowski's other Polish production from that period, Barrier.

Guessing theatrical rights only? Otherwise the StudioCanal Godard set could go OOP.

Will decide whether to watch the BFI Distribution titles in the cinema or on Blu once they announce the specs.

Looks like a reliably terrific line-up from the BFI; makes me wish I didn't live so far from the big smoke, but physical releases of the Skolimowskis and Enys Men are very welcome.

good to see some overdue Jerzy Skolimowski love. Surely someone will put out a release of Moonlighting? or is there some rights thing with this?

Screenbound released it a couple of years back.

Enys Men was one of the worst 5 movies I've seen in theaters this year, and I've seen 269. Total mess. Definitely will be passing on that. EO, on the other hand, was amazing, and I'll be picking it up for sure.
