It is £18.27 on Rarewaves, every month or so they do a 10% site wide discount, I will order it when they next do the discount.

I've used that tactic before on Rarewaves pre-orders only to find the items were 'sold out' by the time the discount code rolled around.

I've already preordered it from Rarewaves as it's currently in stock. I just wouldn't wait around to get another 10% off as there's a good chance it'll become unavailable and will then be re-listed at a higher price.

Beautiful Thing is a really special film. It makes the heart swell, seeing first love between the two lads. It's wonderfully written, and has a killer soundtrack. I can't recommend the film enough; it's an absolute winner, and deeply emotionally affecting

If you're in the south-west, Bristol Watershed have a Technicolor season coming up in partnership with BFI: some really good films, including a handful of Powell & Pressburger classics.

Great season and possibly my favourite cinema (shame I don't live nearby). I'd love to see Vertigo, All That Heaven Allows and Charade on the big screen; and P&P-wise, of course, A Matter of Life and Death and Black Narcissus in particular. Run, don't walk!

Ooh. Thanks for the heads up. Booked tickets for The Red Shoes, Suspiria and The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg (if you hear someone crying like a big jessie through the latter then that'll be me).

This new book by the BFI seems to fit in with the upcoming season:

The Cinema of Powell and Pressburger: Romantic Imaginations

For once the reviews don't seem like simple hyperbole

[Show spoiler]This book is a pleasure to read, full of generous appreciations of Powell and Pressburger’s work from a multitude of personal angles. -- Philip Kemp ― Sight & Sound

A lavish volume. -- Robin Ashenden ― The Spectator

The Cinema of Powell and Pressburger raids the BFI’s archive to provide definitive visual gloss on the partnership’s career. Gorgeous paintings from the production-design teams. Reproductions of pages from Powell’s diary revealing his immaculately vertical penmanship. Lavish promotional stills that work subtle variations on the moving images. No coffee table is complete without it. -- Donald Clake ― The Irish Times

A superb acknowledgement of the powerfully collaborative nature of filmmaking … [And] a record of remarkable artistic freedom made possible for a prolifically imaginative director and writer to cast their spells, enthusiasm and love. ― London Grip

HMV sale incoming? I notice Amazon have a reduced a handful, and they're usually responding to HMV.

Spotted a few newer titles like Pretty Red Dress down to £7.99 at HMV.

Is BFI really backed up on orders?
I bought a bunch of sales films in August and it got delayed due to restock issues. (or that was the stated reason when I emailed them in September)
Since then - still nothing. I emailed back last week and got no reply so far.

Thanks, with a 20% code that's £6.39 a title. Went for

Western Approaches, La Regle Du Jeu, Kamikaze Hearts and The Driver's Seat.

Classic BFI, doing a massive HMV sale after their own and several Rarewaves price-drops. I already bought a bunch of these recently, should've known I could've waited and saved a few quid!

Ah well, still got these: The Juniper Tree, The Driver's Seat, Western Approaches, Kuhle Wampe, The Phantom of the Opera.

I am as well still waiting for my order of

L'argent
Mary Queen of Scots
A Woman Under the Influence
Scandal
Polytechnique
Shooting Stars

I wonder if any of those blu-rays are the ones that have been affected more by the stock problems.
