Sorry, I meant in the theaters. I’ve watched and have a few of his movies, but Fallout was the last one I saw in theaters.

That pretty much sums it up oiler73. That volleyball game still cracks me up. It is definitely an 80’s popcorn movie. Well, maybe I can take the pressure off if that 73 is accurate levcore

Fallout is his most recent film, it only came out a year ago.

I've never seen the original Top Gun despite being an 80s kid (I will fix that soon) and I was frankly pretty blown away by the Maverick trailer.

The music, the cinematography, the tone - it was perfect. As someone who can't stand all of the pointless reboots, I welcome movies that get it right like Blade Runner 2049 and now, Top Gun: Maverick.

There are ways to make new movies while honoring the originals, getting the original fans excited and still hopefully snagging in a new generation of fans. What we've seen for far too long is taking a franchise, abandoning the core fan base and hoping to market it solely to a new generation. Hopefully this a sign of better things to come.

I'm still blown away by the visuals. I want to watch the movie for that alone.

I found the flight sequences in the trailer AWESOME.

The shot of upside down F-18 disappearing behind a mountain ridge, WOW. 3 F-18s in high g pull up creating cloud of vapour above the wings, WOW.

Using F-18 Hornets in place of F-14 Tomcats . . . not wow. F-14 just has larger and menacing presence than the F-18.

Tom Cruise, probably in mid 50's in the movie, still riding his motorcycle, getting passed over on promotions, etc. feels like Maverick has not grown up at all!

I expected this movie to be a CGI train wreck, instead I can't believe how good, solid and "real" this trailer actually looks. Also, they nailed the mood 100%. This could be the Creed 2 of the Top Gun "franchise".

Yet I think F18 are no match for F14, anyway you have that glimpse after the the titles that gave me the goosebumps... again. It seems they clearly recall which was the one and only, aerial star of Top Gun ;-)
Solid comparison.

I figured this was just going to be a CG fest. I was shocked at how practical everything was and the mood. Top Gun 2 sounds terrible on paper just like Creed 2 where Apollo's son fights Drago's son.

Say what you will about Tom Cruise but he won't be associated with crap. Without him, this would have certainly been a cheap, CG nightmare.

The fact that he put out a PSA about interpolation says it all. What other move star would be bothered to do that?

I can't really say that is crap. It's not the best film around, but it's pretty decent though.

I'm amazed that so many people thought this was going to be a CGI fest. Cruise is a quality control freak, loves practical and was not going to be involved in a sequel to his most iconic role that didn't equal or ideally surpass what came before. From the trailer he's clearly done the surpass bit and, come on, it's a sequel to Top Gun - Paramount will have got a level of DOD approval/input on this film that makes Michael Bay's connections look like Coppola's in Apocalyspe Now. There's no CGI that beats real.

It's a deplorable pathetic film in every single regard. I'm a fan of Cruise, but that by far ranks as one of his worst films. It's irredeemable.

The camera(s) mounted in Super Hornet’s cockpit has a very fast readout rate meaning rolling shutter artifacts, like jello, are minimized. If it were to have been developed with a global shutter, then those extra circuits likely would have either added noise , reduced sensitivity and/or dynamic range.

Agreed. I thought it failed to generate any sense of excitement or suspense and was one of the most uninvolving, underwhelming and uninteresting big-budget films I've ever seen.

Agreed. I don't have a local IMAX but I'm tempted to drive into Ohio to see this if available.

I know there were F-14's on set. I'm really hoping they bring out the F-14 at the end to prove that newer isn't always better. It would make sense considering the way the story is set up.

Yeah, The Mummy is probably Cruise's big-budget nadir, down there with the disappointing M:I2.

The Mummy was OK, just a little too generic for a Cruise movie (and it could never live up to the '99 version, let alone the actual original).

IMHO Oblivion is his worst big-budget movie, and even that isn't terrible. It's just too much a hodepodge of other, better sci-fi movies and does nothing interesting aside from its look and score.

Yes a F-14 was moved out of storage and placed on an Aircraft carrier, the Tomcat has been retired and all that exists are the shells. The navigation, engines, weapon systems have all been ripped out of them.

My understanding is they use F-18 and F-22 hornets in this movie. However nothing can replace the Tomcat because of Top Gun it is iconic.
