The same way I and probably many other people are going to watch Top Gun: Maverick. I'm a movie lover (on a movie forum, no less!), so I'm going to watch a sequel to a great movie regardless.

If enjoying art and film is bad, then I'm guilty, and so is everyone else on this forum. Lock me up in a cell with a TV so I can watch Top Gun on VHS.

So because I'm pointing out your participation in the profits of a censorious company that supports an evil regime, that equates to me telling you how to live, and saying that you can't enjoy film anymore? Nice jump of logic there. Gaslighting is the name of the game these days, for people who don't want to ever take a look at their faults. By the way, I'm a film lover myself, that's why I'm here. But I have the awareness to know when I am or am not supporting something sinister. Do you think I'm happy that I can't ever watch Maverick, because of the blood money involved? I'm gutted that I can't, but I will not EVER place art above morals.

That post was not about you or aimed at you in particular. It was more of a generalized take of mine born from some of the discussion raised here (albeit by you). If it was about you in particular (or even talking to you in particular), I would have quoted you and/or mentioned you specifically. However I can't deny the similarity of a Vegan pointing out how me eating meat is bad to you pointing out that my participation in watching a movie is being bad. I've never claimed that you in particular are telling me how to live, or that you in particular are saying that I can't enjoy a film. I'm going to enjoy films I like anyway.

It very much has to do with the film. They censored Maverick's jacket in this movie, and it is a slap in the face to millions of people being harassed. That is not how his jacket looked in the original. My original comment was only to point that out.

I only expanded my reply when others jumped in to take on my view. Or should I just let other people question my takes, without any response? Is it now unacceptable to highlight human rights abuses by films in their respective forums? In that case, be sure to censor any/all criticism because if we can't talk about something so important, the rest is just nonsense.

A lot of people on here make replies without quoting (really stupid imo) so I thought nothing of it to respond to something seemingly outright aimed toward my response. Feel free to enjoy whatever you want (I said that already). But I personally won't excuse your behavior to being harmless like you make it out to be, and I won't abide by someone saying its okay because its in the name of love of film. That's a copout excuse.

That's not the end of the story, though. Just because you say something doesn't make it so. That's the beauty of freedom. We can all have our own differing thoughts and takes. I might disagree with kylor's take and disapprove, but he has the right to it. Imagine living in a place where that fundamental right is taken from you. People take things like this for granted so easily. Of course people can buy and watch what they want. That was never in contention. I'm merely pointing out the morals of it in certain specific cases. To you, that's a UN meeting. To me, it's a simple discussion of ethics on a Sunday.
