If someone wants the best transfer available then they need to upgrade. If they are happy with their current setups and gear more power to them but I won't feel sorry for them because it's their decision. If people want it bad enough they'll upgrade. I did.
But it won't work that way. It will just drive more customers away from physical media out of frustration. Of course this is just my opinion and none of us know for sure.

Just finished watching this

I don't have the words...

Quick question. Is it safe to take off the HDR sticker? I don't wanna risk it until I know.

I dunno, I don't see this being any different from any other format. Studios want to make as much money as possible so I don't think physical media will die. Sales for this format are very good, surpassing BD sales in the beginning. I don't know why people would be frustrated, not saying you have to upgrade now but eventually most people will own a 4k tv. I would understand frustration if you couldn't play standard BD and UHD players but you can, in fact they look better than ever, it's like I own a new collection.

Mine turned up today (with slip) less than a week (to the UK) from order via the sub $10 price on Amazon.com last week. Can't wait to watch this on the weekend.

Watching this has me hoping that Sony manages to get 1776 on UHD before the 4th next year, and also happy I never upgraded this one from the flipper DVD until now. I love seeing all this grain. Now the wait for T2.

I think there's merit to both arguments. I see where you're coming from, though in my head I feel like the people who are willing to go streaming will likely do it either way. Of the people left choosing physical media, it's best to incentivize UHD.

Lemme tell you.

This native 4K remaster, right behind Blade Runner, is easily one of the most impressive in my collection, made even better as I own the Best Buy exclusive steelbook.

Not even the two Spielberg 4Ks look as good as either previously mentioned films.

Got this today and the blu-ray was stuck in the player for like half a minute before it would play. Anyone else got this issue?
As for the UHD, it's the grainest disc I own so far. It's almost distracting but I'll play the whole movie first before passing final judgment.

This movie has always been a grainfest. It’s how it’s supposed to be.

So why are standard Blu-ray owners getting shafted? I'd like a 4K remaster on standard Blu-ray.

If they are going to throw in a standard Blu-ray anyways why not have it be remastered as well? Would it really cost studios that much more money to print some standard Blu-rays with the new master and include it with the 4K Blu-ray? Cheap asses.

No loading probs at all on my UB900, if anything I think Sony titles have actually started to load a bit quicker after the latest firmware updates. They were noticeably more sluggish vs the Sony X800 player but now they seem a bit more even.

Weird then. Maybe my disc is faulty. It gets stuck at the icon with red line. I tried multiple times. Eventually the menu loads. Never had any issues with a disc before. Thankfully the UHD loads fine.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the UHD. Do you have any persistent memory installed in the player (SD card stuck in the front) as the Sony BD of Troopers was notorious for loading problems on people's set-ups due to the BD live component. Having internet access turned on doesn't help either. Lemme try mine right now...and from the screen going black to the red bar appearing to the Sony pictures logo took 25 seconds.

Yes because you're talking about tens of thousands of dollars.

I don't recall people complaining when an Anniversary remastered Blu came out that there wasn't a corresponding new DVD.

Thinking about blind buying. Is there good humor in the movie? Trying to see how this is so popular. Soldiers going to war with giant bugs? Haha. Looks like it has a decent following though!
