Hmmm. That's about 14 seconds of questionable footage. Break out the pitchforks!
I couldn't find a pitchfork emoji.

Honestly it's just one of the few bits of CGI that hasn't aged well, it doesn't help that they share the frame with a miniature that holds up far better.

There's a shot of the spaceships which does look virtually monochromatic aside from the bright blue engines, I think that's the same shot being referenced up there. Heck of it is, the same shot is featured in Paul M Sammon's 'making of' book and it looks exactly the same, almost black and white apart from the engines.

Just took a look at my blu-ray (Standalone 2008 one, not the one included with the 4K because that's in another room and I'm lazy) and it looks similarly monochromatic albiet with a blueish overall tint. Not sure where the colour variation in the ships is coming from.

Is the version found in the UV code the same transfer as that of the UHD code only displayed in SDR?

I was hesitant on buying this but got a copy from another member on here and what a good looking 4k disc. I see what some others said about grain but I didn't feel like it was to bad. Some of the space scenes PQ was incredible and the colors was fantastic. Reading some of your posts on how good the PQ looked def helped me decide to finally pick this up so thanks for the reviews.

The co-ed shower rooms seemed weird and offputting

None of us did. It also did not match the overall vibe of the movie IMO.

Dude, you don't have to go to science fiction to see such co-ed realities in a military unit.

Chris

PS: You might want to stay away from Battlestar Galactica

Agree on the grain but in some scenes it's a sandstorm, others look flawless. I just don't know enough about filming, transfer, master, etc. as many folks on here to know why it looks this way.

One of my favorite movies as a kid so I'm really enjoying it right now. I forgot Hank from Breaking Bad was in it!

Would you like to know more?

New behind-the-scenes footage of practical bug effects put on youtube by the production company...

So much work went into that and it shows onscreen. Better than the CGI stuff.

Remember kids, ultra violence and evil fascist governments = good, brief non-sexualised nudity = bad and belongs nowhere near my blood and guts.

Nah, it's a running gag with Paul Verhoeven. They had those in RoboCop, too.

I had no idea - will be fun to look for him. Does he have hair in this?

No hair, he's the main commander (can't remember the exact title) at the boot camp. He's also in Total Recall as one of the mutants.
