It's very bright, yes. One of the few I would call borderline too bright. I still love it though.

i know i wasnt only one. i'm pretty sure this UHD presentation wasn't the cinematographers intent. too much for me and not very faithful, except for the preservation of grain/color.

HDR is always revisionist, really. If that's something that's gonna bother you then you might wanna try converting them to SDR on a player that's good at that, like the latest Panasonic.

Some of the outdoor planet shots on P were a bit hot I thought, yeah. But overall I liked the presentation a lot. Color timing was similar to the 35mm print I saw recently, but with a shit ton more dynamic range and detail.

Unless they use an answer print for a color/dynamic range reference.

I give Sony a hard time, but this is a spectacular UHD disc. Very faithful color grade to original 35mm prints as well. The old Blu-ray was processed within an inch of its life in a typical Sony fashion, massive sharpening, EE, etc. But here is a reference presentation from the OCN. Verhoeven must have been involved.

So the use of HDR is just a 'gimmick' in this instance

I don't think it can be called a gimmick. I just think it was overbaked. They should have used a bit of restraint.

Eh. Restraint was never really Starship Troopers' thing

My impressions are similar. I have only watched parts of it on a LG B7 and entirely on my VT60.

Watching it in actual HDR is certainly better but I feel as though the contrast was pushed a bit further than what seems, in my opinion, appropriate.

Does anyone know if any streaming service has the 4K resolution of this in accurate/close to accurate quality? Thanks!

Nothing will match the quality of a disc except for a Kaleidascape download or whatever they're called. If you just mean who has the 4k master available for streaming though, I think Amazon usually have Sony 4ks when Vudu doesn't.

I've found the rule of thumb to usually be Vudu will have WB titles and Amazon has the Sony titles (with a few exceptions, of course).
