Yeah, the original film was supposed to be darker and more horror oriented, but Spielberg wanted them to er on the side of black humor instead.

Smart man that Spielberg is. The level of violence is perfect as is. It's why most of us fell in love with it as kids.

How awesome would it be just as they did with the 1933 king kong ,where the blu ray did how the lost spider pit sequence would be, if in the future they created scenes for the rejected ideas for this movie? For example the scene where in a mcdonalds the gremlins eat people, the mothers head getting torn off by a gremlin.

For anyone living in the Los Angeles area, the Nuart theater on Santa Monica Blvd by the 405 overpass will be doing a midnight screening tonight (12/19/2014).

This will be a good opportunity for people to actually see just how well done and faithful to the source the much maligned Blu transfer really is (yes, the Blu really is great). If it's at the Nuart, the print will undoubtedly be of high quality.

See you there...

Yeah, they cut off her head. and as Billy comes in Her head comes rolling down the stairs. Yeah, they ate the dog by the Christmas tree. That's what made them turn into Gremlins instead of getting Chicken.

Plus the Corey Feldman character was killed. Along with Gizmo turning into stripe half way through it. Also a scene of them at McDonald's with all the dead people and untouched food. Suppose to be a joke even they won't get McDonald's. Billy was also alot younger and had a foul mouth.

I read the script a few years back. Pretty grim and dark. Depressing really.

So I guess it was a good thing Spielberg stepped in and changed it

They should do a reboot with that original script.

Yeah, I agree with that 100%. Spielberg is a amazing! I am glad they didn't go in that direction and went for a comedic angle with the film and made the Gremlins more mischievous than make them evil. The only one that I could consider to be like that was the "Stripe" character who definitely appeared very evil and wanted to cause real harm to those around him, especially towards Billy himself.

Also, yeah I remember them talking about Gizmo turning into "Stripe" in the original script which I am glad that they didn't have that happen. Gizmo was so adorable, it would have been sad to see him turn into one of the Gremlins.

Corey Feldman's character died?! I didn't know that. Didn't Mr. Futterman also get killed in the original script too? I thought I remember them saying that too on the commentary but I might be wrong.

Where did you find the script at? I know you can always find leaked scripts for movies on the internet. I found one a few years ago for Titanic which had the alternate ending in it.

Yeah, same here. It was also kinda considered a kids movie. Because it had his name attached to it and he did ET before. So parents thought it be like that. But were they wrong. Gremlins is one of the two films responsible for them making a PG-13 rating.

I think Spielberg said something about them needing something do they could market to the kids and that wad Gizmo. Would have been a totally different movie.

Yeah, and in the actual movie his character does. (Mr. Futterman) But they added that little audio at the end of him surviving.

A script site of course. But if you're looking for it. I know where you can get it,

Let's give some credit to Joe Dante too. Spielberg (and the studio) didn't like Kate's story about her father as Santa Claus and wanted it out of the film, but Dante fought for it and Spielberg left it up to him as it was Dante's film. If Dante was a weaker director we wouldn't have gotten that classic scene.

I could have sworn I saw a thread a while back about Gremlins getting a new 4K transfer. I searched and could not find it. Did I just imagine that?

That's pretty dumb if they packaged the figures but we lose the second disc of 30th anniversary extras.
