Exactly. If a UHD disc includes HDR, it's manded that the base layer must be HDR10. So no one will be left in the cold.

The interesting part about HDR10+ is that it is backwards compatible with HDR10, so it will be interesting to see if it can become the base layer, or if that will cause issues with other dynamic HDR formats.

At the very least, HDR10+ will become an optional layer like DV.

Once again, that's false. Dynamic HDR (HDR10+) does not require any more bandwidth than HDMI 2.0 currently requires (18 Gbps.) Technical Director of HDMI LA has also confirmed that dynamic HDR can be added with a simple firmware upgrade to current devices that support HDMI 2.0a, but it depends on manufacturer.

Either way, HDR10+ will certainly be possible via external devices at some point, and it will almost surely be on UHD discs.

Based on what? Did BDA confirm anything about a spec revision?

This is all that matters right now: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Assets/Do...0729_clean.pdf

2.2.3.3.5 Supported HDR technologies
This format defines three types of HDR video formats: BDMV HDR, Dolby Vision and Philips HDR.
The BDMV HDR is the HDR video format which is mandatory for player in this specification. The Dolby
Vision and Philips HDR are the optional HDR video technologies for players and discs. The Dolby
Vision and Philips HDR technologies use metadata that has also been submitted to the SMPTE for
consideration.

Oh wow, great answer: your logic is "Samsung is using it, so Blu-ray will have it too"

Try to use some foresight. I know it's difficult for you given your obvious limitations, but give it a shot.

Lowly Philips was able to get their dynamic HDR format passed by BDA. That format, despite having a head start on HDR10+, still has no content that supports it, nor does it have any announced content that will support it in the future - be it streaming or physical media. Meanwhile, Samsung has already announced their partnership with Amazon, who has committed to releasing HDR10+ content in a few months. This format isn't exclusive to Samsung, by the way - other manufacturers are free to adopt it, as it's an open format.

You can choose to believe that Samsung won't generate enough support to get it passed, but you're just being delusional.

With regards to Hollywood studios and post production work, something I forgot to mention is that a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios is investigating a non-proprietary HDR approach to motion picture production using ACES workflow already tested on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and to be with the upcoming Spiderman movie.

Thanks, they wouldn't come down on the price on the LG OLED at all. So I got the new Samsung 3.1 channel soundbar with it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-...?skuId=5754514
Now thinking I should go back and get the rear speakers for it and make it 5.1channel with these. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-...?skuId=5754510 What you guys think?

And for Kimmel Live fans, one of the unique things about Guardians is, that if you look really closely, Guillermo’s in the movie…..

Peter C. ^ from Grass Valley is quite well versed in HDR imaging and has been so for a long time, e.g. he presented a ground breaking image at the 2008 (http://www.daybyday.press/spip.php?article2088&lang=de ) SMPTE NAB Digital Cinema Summit which was shot in the Grass Valley lab showing a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, more than 23 stops of dynamic range -

but folks seeking to learn something true (and not simply being lap dogs to the marketing from whatever company) should listen to the YouTube linked in the post above as to recognize that the value of 8K….at least for sports….is *difficult* if not counterproductive to sharpness when you take dof into account.

Yeah, something people don't realise as they keep talking up 8K is that each of these step-ups in resolution put different demands on the glass used to capture it in the first place. Bigger sensor = shallower depth of field, I 'member you saying something very similar when 4K was being tested out. That in itself proves that those hurdles can be overcome with time, but still....
