It IS relevant because you talk about the studios having independence when it comes to running their operations and I'm pointing out that despite that their home video divisions are still controlled by Disney. Since Disney doesn't support HDR10+ that means Fox's video releases probably will not once Disney takes over.

Nothing is known about any “contracts” that Fox might have signed with Samsung.
I’m not saying they exist, just that they may have to be honored.
If there aren’t any, then yes Fox/Disney could turn their backs on 10+.
But it still seems to be 100% speculation at this time.

Exactly, nobody knows anything about Fox home video future so let's wait to see what happens.

And it's not like Disney itself is pushing for Dolby Vision adoption, they stopped making discs with it

My point was that I wasn't debating the disc mastering stuff you guys are. I was responding directly to your aside that Fox won't exist in a year's time. We don't know that at all.

I agree that, even if they have some independence in home video decisions like Marvel does, they will almost surely adopt Disney's home video standards.

Default Dolby Vision Profiles

Latest Dolby Vision Profiles and levels (V1.3):
https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technolo...s_20181025.pdf

. High Frame Rate (HFR):
Single-layer Profile 5 and Profile 8 can now support up to 120 fps (max of H.265 Main 10 Level 6.2: 3840×2160@300, 7680x4320@128).

Dual-layer Profile 4 and Profile 7 keep supporting up to 60 fps (max of H.265 Main 10 Level 5.1: 3840×2160@64).

The 120-fps Dolby Vision profiles should be backward compatible with current 60-fps Dolby Vision TV.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-h...l#post54845156

. 8K UHD 7680x4320:
Single-layer Profile 5 and Profile 8 can now support 8K UHD (H.265 Main 10 Level 6.2).

. HLG base layer:
The new single-layer Profile 8.4 provides backward compatibility with HLG.
"For Profile 8.4, only test streams are available. We are still in the process of finalizing encoding tools."

Well, I guess some exposure to science, is better than none…..even if it’s from a Hollywood screenwriter. True, in the real world, there is the danger of recklessness - https://www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...c-rss_20181126

High Frame Rate (HFR):
Challenges remain upstream for live HFR, for instance - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post15900404

e.g., for the latest HFR/HDR trial, the video was captured as 2 distinct 2160p/50 signals with each representing either the even or odd frames for the full 100 hertz signal. Using 3G-SDI interfaces resulted in the need of 8 cables/source!

But, we’ll eventually get to HFR capture and delivery, just so long as we don’t get waylaid too long by the marketeers with their sales pitch for 8K, who see that as a quick way to make an easy buck.

Can anyone think of a single situation where DV having backwards compatibility with HLG would be useful? I can’t even imagine a hypothetical where this would be necessary?

Meanwhile I’m going riding with da boys to keep my mind off today’s stock market.

SDI may have some issues, but how about IP?
