Depends on how much light is in your man cave. If it's fairly bright, the KS8000 is a great TV; bright highlights and lots of color. But if you do a lot of viewing in the dark, I'd lean more towards the Vizio P Series with its full array local dimming. The Sony X900E seems like a good set, but probably not worth the price difference over the other two. And if Dolby Vision is an important factor to you, the Vizio P Series is the only one with it. Only the Sony 930, 940, and Z9D are getting DV updates. Samsung does not support DV at all. If you want more in depth comparisons, I recommend Rtings. They have reviews on all the sets you are looking at.

Bias lights + KS8000 is the way to go. That way, you get the best of both worlds - great blacks and a very high perceived contrast, as well as 1400 nits and amazing colors. Not to mention that it supports more HDR formats than the Vizio P.

It's fairly bright since we have lots of windows and it's not in the basement. Probably going to be KY main TV in the living room and move my old one. I don't know if Dolby Vision is important to me or not. I prefer just putting the disc in instead of streaming and there is no Dolby Vision disc content yet that I'm aware of and don't know if it's coming. What is this hdr10+ will the 2016 TV be updated with it? Will the 2017 tvs have it?

HDR10+ provides dynamic metadata for HDR, similar to Dolby Vision. And yes, the 2016 TVs will get it, and 2017 TVs already have it. Be careful with 2017 Samsung TVs though. Most models have received worse reviews than the 2016 models, and they're a lot more expensive. KS8000 is the best bet.

That's what I heard in a couple comments. The ks8000 has a much brighter peak brightness. That's why I'm leaning towards that but want to get one before they are all sold out. One 60" left to. Might be considering that. All out of the 65" ones I guess but my rooms aren't so big where I necessarily need a 65".

Dolby Vision is an important step up in HDR quality. It also increases disc content bit depth to 12 bits. And discs are coming very soon, starting with Universal and Sony. Hinted at in the Dolby NAB booth, they seemed bullish on Disney's participation in the not too distant future as well.

That's my other dilemma. Maybe I should wait for 2018 TVs. Ugh 2017 TVs won't even have hdmi 2.1 will they? So hdr10+ will only be available streaming only?

An official over at HDMI LA said some of the HDMI 2.1 features (including dynamic metadata - i.e. HDR10+) can be added via firmware, but it depends on the manufacturer. So it's still possible Samsung may offer HDR10+ via HDMI for the 2016/2017 TVs.

We don't know if 2018 TV's will have HDMI 2.1 either. I wouldn't worry too much it.

HDR10+ is not a given even though Samsung is touting it as if it were. There is debate as to whether or not the BDA will even add it as an extension feature of UHD Blu-ray.

HDMI 2.1 in 2017 product is a hit n miss situation. Maybe the units coming later in the year.

Oh, and Lionsgate just announced it will start its promised Dolby Vision releases fairly quickly.

Thanks. All this stuff is so confusing. I already bought a 2015 Samsung ju7100 and it processes hdr I guess, but I don't think it displays it really well if that makes sense. Don't want this one to be outdated within a year so I'd like it to have everything. Wish the whole hdr and Dolby Vision thing was settled already.

HDR10+ is a given for streaming. That will be happening later this year when Amazon will start releasing HDR10+ content.

As far as it becoming part of the UHD specs, there's every reason to believe that it will be added. If Philips was able to get their format added, Samsung won't have a problem, especially since we already have confirmation of HDR10+ content being released, and we're still waiting for ST 2094-20 content.

Like with any of this stuff, I'll believe it when I see it.

However, given what DV brings to the table above and beyond even HDR10+, like much more stringent mastering requirements, I would rather they stick with DV for now until something better comes along.

We can worry about the differences between HDR10+ and DV when consumer 12 bit panels become a reality.

I want 12-bit panels just as much as the most serious video enthusiasts do, but I must say with Dolby Vision content most of the premium 2017 TVs do a good job of dithering the last two bits to emulate the 12-bit image.

In the $1000ish dollar price range I think the two main choices are the Samsung 8000 series and the Vizio P series. They both have positives and negatives. Hell, $4,000 OLEDs have negatives.

The Samsungs are HDR Premium with better color, but you'll need to use bias lights to get rich blacks and they don't support Dolby Vision. The Vizios support Dolby and have local dimming that allows for rich blacks in a pitch dark room, but they don't get anywhere near HDR Premium brightness, have a bit worse color and the local dimming can crush details at times. All the reviews across the board pretty much concur with these positives and negatives, so you just gotta pick what's best for you.

Since I use bias lights anyway, and since HDR 10 is pretty amazing already and who knows if Dolby Vision will take off on disc, the Samsung was the choice for me. You might have different priorities.

I want the Samsung Ks8000 but so many pros and cons. Lol I guess even if Dolby Vision discs come out they will downgrade to the pretty good HDR the Samsung has.

Not a fan of the Vizio P. Good blacks but it lacks both the ks8000 and 900e in many areas. Every time I see the 900e at best buy I'm impressed. Sharp, vibrant, and bright enough. Vizio P has never impressed me with its matte screen and not so vibrant picture. The blacks under any light look gray because of the type of screen it uses. Needs to be pitch black. I'd rather watch hdr10 on a truer hdr TV than Dolby Vision on a TV that lacks brightness and color for hdr, it makes a huge difference.

If your avatar is truly your passion , then expect undergoing yet another TV upgrade come about the year 2020….work progresses getting all the ducks in a row from capture to distribution .

Sports arenas, like I assume your Scottrade Center, having modern LED lighting (e.g. https://www.specgradeled.com/hockey-rink-led-lighting/) will negate flicker when capturing in HFR and thusly blaze the trail for combined HDR HFR live content broadcast to the public in a few years.
